I'm glad it's not impressive. It keeps costs down .

Eric. Its funny how you pick up on and carry with you ideas of others. I was convinced that incremental increases in sound quality come at the cost of exponential price increases. Put that together with M60 like speakers I auditioned that impressed me, personal good fortune and an expiring offer on a very very nice looking finish and I knew exactly what I was going to do.
At exponential cost per value, the M80s are easilly a 2,000+ speaker. I am quite happy to wait a little longer to pay for the extra cost of the speakers (and the amp required).
So, no, I didn't order anything. If money were no object I would have stayed at Axiom and helped them build me a pair of M80s in high gloss, honest to good, real rosewood.

Mojo. Effortless and nuanced, yet. Velvety, no. Bob Dylan on the M80s would not sound velvety, he would sound like Dylan. All Dylan, all the time.
I think that with the exception of piano and the higher pipe organ stuff, I heard more detail/texture/nuance on everything.
Interesting tidbit. I asked Tom why the M22 sounded so different from the M80 He answered "Harmonics". I don't understand the physics of it, but with two mids and two woofers, they don't work as hard to produce sound, so they can produce all of it including the harmonics. When we process sound, we use both the direct sound and the harmonics to determine what something sounds like.
OK DG, cover your eyes and move on to the next post.
I found the biggest difference in soundstage was between the M80 and M22. My first comment to Amy on comparing the two was that the M22s sounded... speakery. Its not meant as a criticizm of the M22s, I guess more of a testiment to how transparent the M80s can be.

Well, Dylan sounds more velvety on the M80s than other Axiom speakers . Transparent is another good word to use with the 80s as you pointed out.

Mojo. Not a penny wasted on fancy buildings or offices. Its all working space.
Jason. I did not even want to try the ep400 on movies. There was enough sound preasure to hurt my ears listening to music at the minimum setting. Maybe I'm just ultra sensitive to the low stuff and the ep400 produces lots of that. I don't know.
With the 350 set at about 1/2 I heard lots and lots of base (but not too much) without that preasure fealing on the ears(listening to music that is), but plenty of oomph for movies. In fact, I think I would turn it down a little for movies.
