As someone I recently purchased an Epic 60/500 set, I have to agree with that the 60s are mindblowingly beautiful. I went with them because my room is not large, I didn't want to deal with the lower impedance and the assurance from Alan that blind testing had revealed that the tonal differences between the 60s and the 80s were not extreme but were in fact almost subtle.

There was a lot of talk in the forum about the 60s being "laid back" but Alan assured me this was not the case. I now know that they absolutely rock. As I have said before, Whatever reality is in a recording, these guys will reveal it.

Anyway, 4 years of M60 ownership is time very well spent from an audio perspective IMHO.

Congratulations!

And I'm just a wannabe member until I scrape together enough pennies, but I did get to hear the entire line in A/B auditioning.

I didn't find the 60s laid back. With some instruments like piano, I didn't really hear any difference between the 60s and 80s.

With other instruments I heard a difference. How subtle or noticable it is seems to be a very personal thing.

I distinctly remember that Diana Krall's piano did not sound as crisp, open and transparent with the 60s. Maybe this has to do with off-axis performance of the 80s in my room. Maybe the off-axis performance of the 80s is better than the 60s but to hear that difference you have to be in a relatively bright room like mine. If you listened to the line-up in an acoustically dead room, then the off-axis performance of the 80s never got realized.

I really don't understand why all the talk lately about this Axiom model against this other Axiom model, this forum sure has changed over the last year it seems. If all the Axiom speakers, or any brand for that matter, sounded the same from the low end bookshelf upto the top of the line floorstanding speaker, there would not be the range of customers with different needs.

This hobby is much more fun if you just sit back and enjoy the sounds.

There's always been that sort of talk, though. It just used to be between M50s and M60s.
