So, the situation I find myself in:

A friend, and maniacal Paradigm fanatic, wants to buy my Monitor 11 system before I move (pending wife acceptance). I got a great price and he's getting a great price so everyone makes out (especially since I really wanted to upgrade my center anyway)! This has lead me to looking for a replacement system (I am keeping my EP350v3 sub).

Going to the FO I can get the M80s with M60 center and 2x QS8 for under $2k (only a bit more than what I am getting from buddy). Interestingly, if I trade in my M3s for retail M22s and get 3x M60 from the FO (and 2x QS8) it comes out to slightly less cash. The M22s would be doing dbl duty going between the 'gym' and home theatre as M82 components. Money isn't really a major issue, just my own miserliness.

My current Rx is a Sherwood Newcastle R771 [so no problems with a 4 ohm load, although I will eventually be going HDMI so will either go seperates ('cause I can \:D ) or Denon 3808 type Rx].

So my question would be, to those who have experimented with this sort of thing, is there really much improvement with the 82 and is the added perceived sonic quality of the M82 worth the hassle, height, tippiness, etc that comes from stacking and wiring the speakers? No real WAF to worry about (although a girl did talk to me last week; I got $3.97 back) and I am, within reason, a substance over style kinda guy. I won't be getting the system until I've got the new place so, at this time, I have no clue what the room will be like so this might be a moot discussion anyway.

M82s will give you the best of both worlds.

Connect the 60s to "A" and the 22s to "B". When you have poorly recorded material or just want to relax without really focusing on the music, play the 60s on their own. If you want surgical precision, listen to the 22s alone (or if you just want to torture yourself with poorly recorded music \:\) ). Flip them both on for an exceptional experience.

The Axiom banana jacks work really well. With those, M22 set-up would be a cinch. As for the tippiness, if you don't have animals and don't stumble much \:\) , you'll be fine.

If you decide to do this, I'll be green with envy \:\) .

I struggled with keeping the M60s as I really preferred that sound to the M80s, I say go for it. I opted out as I knew, in my room, there was a chance the M82 would be bumped hard enough to knock the M22 off the top.

Hey, are you guys around next week? I'll be in Calgary briefly but should have some time W/T/F. I wouldn't mind hearing the 22s and 80s again (and that SVS!). Last time I remember walking away thinking the M22s precise but kinda irritating, but when I got my M2s I found it took me about a week to adjust to them. Now I'm unwilling to part with them, so maybe I'll be better able to appreciate the M22s.

Well I need to make down to Mojo's to pick up the SVS so I can play at my house Wed or Fridays are best for me. I even planned on taking the M22s to Mojos to try them out sitting closer to the wall to see if that helped the thin sound in his basement, Or you can just drop by my place as the 22s are always hooked up and I will have both SVS's here to play with, if I make to Mojo's early in the week.We can take this to PMs from here.
