Since Gasoline is already at record prices, I thought it would be interesting, (since so many parts of North America are represented here)....to see what we all are paying at the pump, Who pays the most, (or least) Now, and in the coming months.

As of 5-7-08 it's: $3.79 a gallon here, in my part of Illinois.

$3.85 for regular, $4.05 for premium. And that's at the discount station. The Chevron across from my work is $4.15 for regular, $4.35 for premium.

same as kcarlie. Sometimes even more on the SF Peninsula.

The better question is what are you doing to offset the cost? \:\)

I try to bike commute once a week. I wish I could do more but it's an 18 mile ride each way and I need to drive my car during work hours, for work purposes. The wife and I try to have at least one day on the weekend when we don't use a car. We put the kids on a bike trailer/jog stroller and helps to add a workout to our weekend routine. Luckily our area is very bike friendly and resources are all close by.

$3.69 for regular .... $4.29 for diesel.

I parked my F250 Power Stroke as a daily driver whenever diesel hit $3.93 ($100+ fill up), I am working 7 days a week and was filling the truck up 3 1/2 times a week.

Not quite two months ago I purchased this little gas miser...
that is saving me $900 a month over driving the truck.

I'm not complaining too terribly much right now but whenever I start filling up the boat that holds 175 gallons of gas that tune might very well change.

About 10 Cents higher than Kens cost for both. Over $125.00 to fill up the Suburban.

Same as LT but it's going up for sure. My daughter said just north of us in Joliet gas went up to $3.95. I'm glad all we drive in 4 cylinders.

We are at about $3.90 for premium these days. I expect it will be over 4 by the end of the month.

Where can I buy some gas futures for my car?!

\:o Just imagine all the extra Axiom stuff you could buy if you got the Suburban and bought something smaller. My last fillup was $48. That will cover me for the week.

Just went up to 1.299 /litre here.. seems to be about $4.87 US/gallon

Most of that is probably government taxes though.

http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_gastemperaturemap.aspx looks like a nice look at the whole US

Karlman and I are in the same place (or close) so we're paying the same... on my way home, I saw signs for $1.299 a litre.

What's the generally accepted excuse this summer...? Sunspots? That pesky war still? Mercury is aligned with Jupiter?

$3.65 for 87 octane around here. It costs about $50 to fill up my Maxima. My car is pretty much used only for driving to work and back -- about 16 mostly highway miles, round trip. I only have to gas up about twice a month.

I did end up using a full tank last weekend, though.

I don't know exactly somewhere around $3.85 probably. I actually don't look, because looking isn't going to change it and it will just depress me. One cool thing a supermarket chain we have locally (Price chopper) Has a deal with sunocco (sp?) using there price plus card every $50 you spend on groceries gets you 10 cents off per gallon. You just swipe your price card at the pump then it rolls down the price. I think its up to 20 or 25 gallons. My wife paid like $2.50 a gallon a couple of weeks ago. Oh and for us its easy because we already did 85% of our shopping there.

I hope this thread stays civil. Seems like the gas threads on my other hangouts always go downhill pretty quickly...

Central Illinois, in the middle-of-nowhere farm country...
$3.79 for 87 (E10)
$3.86 for 89 (E10)
$3.95 for 93 (E10)
$2.95 for E85

Both of our cars require 90+ octane, so the $4/gallon threshold is here for us already. We're fortunate in that my wife and I live less than 3 miles away from our daily jobs, so our time and gas usage for commuting is very low. Though we take a lot of road trips on weekends and during the summer, so we feel it there.

I have a motorcycle that I ride on nice days that gets about 45mpg around town. I was actually thinking of selling it this spring, but changed my mind with the current trend in gas prices. I do find some enjoyment in the fact that these days I'm not looked upon as a freak when I go to the store on the bike to pick up a few things.

Though it is somewhat depressing to fill up the bike for the same amount of money that it cost to fill up my car 8 years ago.

As a note to this thread, if you're curious about gas prices around the US, I've found that GasBuddy.com is a pretty interesting site. Their gas price temperature map is fun (or sad) to play with.

Behold the power of the internet! ;\)

Must be nice... public insurance on bikes here in about 2002 or 2003 suddenly doubled.

Really makes you wonder how much you want to ride when it's going to cost you $2379 to insure a bike (using a 2001 Honda Shadow ACE 750 as a model)... and the riding season here is 5 months.

Wow, at least you have access to E85. GM pushes that at all the dealers but in California, there's only 3 locations pumping E85. That's efficient...

That's probably a good thing, the making and subsequent use of E85 is driving up the commodities/food prices, making for a double whammy on them at the store, transport costs and low supply.

I've seen flexfuel badges on trucks... dunno if I've seen a pump for it yet.

Wow. That's a lot!

I ride a 2005 Suzuki Boulevard M50. Mid-sized, 805cc, sporty-ish looking cruiser. Really great bike. Fuel injected, shaft drive, water cooled. No fussing with chokes, carbs, or oiling chains.

I pay $135 per year to insure it. Full year, comprehensive policy, good limits, and a $250 deductable.

$2,400/year for a 7 year old Honda Ace 750? That's absolutely absurd because $2,400 sounds like a pretty reasonable price to BUY a bike like that!

And yeah, I figured you were talking to me. One tiny benefit to living in the middle of hard-core corn country. We have a few E85 pumps in my town of 24k souls. One even has a BioDiesel pump.

Doug, yes it is ... a CE Model with power windows, door locks, AM/FM CD and automatic. My drive is 207 miles each day to and from work, I am getting 37-39 on the highway and 35.5-37 around town. It was the last new '08 (17 miles on the odometer) the dealer had on the lot and I got it out the door for $15,308. I bought it April 10th and have put over 11k miles on it and thus far I am extremely happy with the car ... especially whenever I pull into the gas station!

I've somewhat had to change my driving habits because she's certainly not an offensive driving machine like my truck, that's for sure.

We've been holding at 3.499 for a couple of days now here in Slidell, LA I filled up this morning with mid-grade at 3.659. My C300 Hemi gets 22 mpg going back and forth to work. Gas was 2.579 when I bought the car...

3.6 hours in the car for the round trip drive ... but most often we're only working 4-6 hours a day so it really doesn't make for *too* many long days.

That's $200 deductable, $200 comprehensive, $1M liability and all-purpose (so you can ride to work)... $200 a month year round... or $480 a month over the 5 months of the year you can ride here.

They just don't want anyone riding here is all.

I'd personally like to see bikes split into 4 catagories instead of two. Right now it's 499 and less CCs and 500+ CCs... I'd like them to split them by bike type too... cruiser versus rice rocket. Let each type of rider only affect their own premiums.

I agree.
Jack up the insurance on crotch rockets. Take the insurance down on bikes that rarely get into as many or as large an accident, like the guy with the 30k Harley.
Ya, like that rich young teenager is gunning it at 200kph through red lights.

I would love to get back into riding, but it just isn't worth the cost.

I love our Corolla. Great car. Peppy, good on gas, comfortable.

That guy riding the dirt bike in flip flops is going to regret his choice of footwear one day.

Yeah, exactly. I've never understood people that ride in shorts & flipflops. It's their skin, I guess.

If that was her accident, she's damn lucky that she only suffered that one spot of road rash.

Dress for the crash, not the ride.

Also, even as a female, wearing leather pants is a good idea... but good leather pants, not Catherine Zeta-Jones "Entrapment" leather pants.

Denim is good... natural fibre - doesn't melt under friction. Heavy leather is better. Leather over denim is king.

I hate doing anything in boots, but at least I'd wear a good Vibram sole hiker.

I didn't expect to have to re-visit this thread so soon....Today, it's $3.83 for regular.

I know oil is going up, but it will be quite a while before the first drop is refined, and gets to these gas stations.

In our newspaper, there was a "voice of the people" writer who was talking about price fixing.....because the dozen, or so gas stations in our town ALL change their prices, at the same time, to the same amount.........nice.

OK, now back to Motorcycles, insurance, flip-flops, and Leather pants. ;\)

The local Kum and Go station in my home town had E85 for 1.60 the other day to help promote E85 vehicles or compatibles.

It's a midwestern chain of convenience stores. I know I have seen them in Wisconsin, and apparently they're in at least Iowa too.

I was always confused by "Fas Gas" in Saskatchewan... is that like - so fast you can't even pronounce the T?

Seriously hoping it's not Fetal Alcohol Syndrome gas... that would be sad.

Earlier in the thread I said I expected $4 a gallon for premium by the end of the month. Apparently that was wishful thinking. I put gas in yesterday and am already up to $4 a gallon here. $399.9 technically, so the mental barrier of 4 and change wasn't broken quite yet. I'm sure it will be next time I fill up. It costs more every time I do.

I paid $4.18 a gallon yesterday to fill the Acura with premium, good thing it only holds 18 gallons, my Suburban holds 32.

I hear ya, Michael. I've got the Acura/premium blues to. Fortunately, I live a few miles from work and I don't have to fill up all that often.

When I bought my car, the dealer said I didn't have to use premium, but I've never put anything else in it.

Which effectively doubles its value.

I just got back from a trip up to the "Burbs" and Regular along the way ranged from $3.81 to $4.24.

At Costco over the weekend:

87 octane: $3.629 for her
93 octane: $3.829 for me

Wife wins, as Honda makes things to run on the cheapo stuff. My Nissan GT-R Maxima needs 90 and up.

UPDATE: 5-22-08 Illinois.

Regular went up to, and held at $3.92 for about a week....it just went to $3.99 today, and is $4.07 and up in the "Burbs"
I really thought it would stay under $4.00, and return to around the $2.70's to $2.90's. It looks like "they" are going to push it to the limits this time.

The really bad part is: if it's this bad now, while the world is somewhat "calm"....imagine, if something BIG goes down.

We are still holding at $1.23 - 1.25/liter, but I suspect it will soon be going up.

The gas stations/companies have been getting alot of flak for raising the fuel prices a few days before a long weekend. This sort of thing has been happening for many years but the outrage has been getting very strong lately so the stations seem to be raising the prices a few weeks before 3-5 cents at a time, then holding that price till about early to mid-June then raising them every weekend till the week before the next long weekend, then hold that price till after Labor day, then the prices drop about 5-10 cents and then we think we are getting a deal.\:\(

Prices in Des Moines, Iowa went up a day ago.

Regular went up to $3.79 gallon (what my wife's minivan takes)
and I am now paying $4.09 gallon for premium (what my supercharged GTP drinks)...

Saw diesel for $5.25 yesterday. Of course, that's the rip off station, but it's usually only .25-.50 more than others.

I noticed this morning on my way to work that the "really cheap" gas station near my house is now $4.0599 per gallon for REGULAR. The "really expensive" station near my office is $4.5599 for regular.

I'm sure glad I got rid of my Audi and bought a hybrid. \:\) Honestly though, even my hybrid uses more gas than I need. My commute is so short, a pure electric would be perfect for me.

It may be the beginning of a downward trend, or attempted subterfuge.

The expensive place went up a dime over night...$4.6599 now. The higher it goes, the faster we'll be able to buy electric cars again.

Spiff,

If I were you, I would get a "Zenn" Car, made right here in Canada. Stands for Zero Emissions No Noise. Ironically, the canadian government won't let them sell to Canada.

I know for sure they sell to the states, and probably California for sure.

spiff, you have a point there. It was when gas prices spiked in the 70s that the auto industry started producing more fuel-efficient cars (>40mpg Honda CVCC, anyone?).

Wow, what does that have a 19 or 20 gallon tank? I've been putting in around $40-42 to fill my Corolla, but it only has a 13 gallon tank.

That's awfully high, just under what we're paying for diesel down our way Wayne ... I topped off the boat the other day, $252.00 for 63 gallons of gas, looks like we'll be slow trolling this summer!

Before I left for vacation 2 weeks ago, gas was $3.97 at the corner station. When I came back a week later, it was $4.06. Yesterday when I left for work in the morning it was $4.11. Today at the same time it was $4.17. And some time between getting back from work and the 4 hours that have passed they raised it another 2 cents to $4.19.

I need to get a bike.

Even Costco gas was almost $4.00 the last time we gassed up. I like living only 8 miles from work, but even so, if the prices get much higher, I'll put some money into by bicycle (sitting in my shed in a state of disrepair) ans start riding it to work.

Wow, what does that have a 19 or 20 gallon tank? I've been putting in around $40-42 to fill my Corolla, but it only has a 13 gallon tank.

Paid $1.27 a litre yesterday, that's about $4.66 a gallon in US dollars. Sadly I think this is something we all are going to have to get used to.

That's awfully high, just under what we're paying for diesel down our way Wayne ... I topped off the boat the other day, $252.00 for 63 gallons of gas, looks like we'll be slow trolling this summer!

Its a 55 litre tank. We are paying $1.30 a litre here in Calgary...not sure what that is in Gallons, probably aroung $4.70...man I can't wait to move to the states for cheaper gas...
