I was doing some cables testing today and i swear, the binding post straps are the most difficult thing ever! Croutched down in the corner behind the speaker, sweatin trying to get them back on and to line up and all while trying to tighten the posts down is pretty hard! lol I think im gonna have to get some short peices of speaker cable or something with bannanas on the ends to use instead of these shorting straps. ( hint hint axiom. new product idea! ) please tell me im not the only one who doesnt like these things!

I know that when Peter had biampable speakers, he used very short lengths of speaker cable instead of the straps. This was for a different reason (which we shall not go into...) but I assume it would alleviate your situation. You could always crimp on some bananas. Cheap!

Here we go. Since i dont have them bi-wired anymore i just cut off some of the RS cables i was using and took the bannanas off em. These sure are a heck of a lot easier to take on and off then them other things!

Nice concoction, Brandon. Are they 12 gauge or 10, or even bigger?

I guess you could have made them even shorter, for a "faster" sound! HAHAHA...

Its just your plain ole 12 gauge RS mega cables. with some bannanas i got at home depot a while back that have two small screws that hold the wire in.

I did the exact same thing with my Paradigm Monitor 9 speakers -- except I attached the speaker wires to the top (treble) posts.

A little birdie once told me that if you're not bi-wiring your bi-wireable speakers, you should always connect your speaker wires to the top (treble) posts. Why? Because the treble is more susceptible to cabling issues (e.g. loss of detail/clarity) than the bass. I guess the theory goes that the connection (using the original plates or a substituted wire) between the top and bottom posts is like a splice and that any joint between cables can cause degradation of signal.

This is just what I have heard and I do not endorse it -- but I followed the advice anyway because it couldn't hurt.

Yes, Brandon, as sushi implied, if the path to the mids and tweeters is now about 6 inches longer, I calculate that they've been delayed in relation to the bass by nearly one/two-billionths of a second. You should invite some golden ear over so that he could describe the bad effects he hears.

Yes Peter, but that makes your bass even "slower".

OMG. maybe i should make em shorter ya think?

I did have them connected to the top posts before, but with the bannanas it makes me move the speaker cables kina bent outta shape but i guess i should put them back on the top since its better to have the bass going through the cheapo wire instead of the treble :-)

despite what goes on inside the cabinet.

On that note, you should also replace the standard polyfill in your M80s with some nice "fast" polyfill that increases the speed of sound within your cabinet. And don't forget to calibrate it to affect only the frequencies below 80Hz. You wouldn't want your mids and trebles to outrun your bass.

So does this mean bass extension will be lower?!

I may get some 50 ft cables and bi-wire them....the m60's will go as my SVS 25-31pci!

oh yes, a whole new group of audio nonsense has started in my head!

What you need to do to hit those really low notes with your M60s is take the Doppler effect into consideration. When you want your bass to be lower, just run away from your speakers as fast as you can. The resulting relative expansion of the sound wave will drop it a few Hertz!

Yes Marcus, Peter is entirely correct about making use of the doppler effect with your sub. Another practical application of the effect would be if you just drove fast enough all the red lights would be green for you.

It's not scary if you know the cat... About all he'll do to you is sit on you and crush your pelvis.

And/or cut off circulation to your legs.

(though I guess that would most likely be a side effect of a crushed pelvis anyway)
