OK. I've been using Vista now for 1 day since I got my new PC yesterday. Anyway, I've run into an error that I've seen help/fixes for Vista 32 bit, but I am running Vista 64 bit and can't seem to get around it. From what I've seen, it seems to be a generic error, possibly with the registry. Other places are saying it is RAM, and yet everything runs fine and I don't get any other errors. It is just milliseconds after I click on setup.exe...

I get the following error when I try running setup for Photoshop CS3:
Internal Error 275

Any ideas?

There is a program called regcure that claims to repair that error? I have never used the program before so Im nos sure if it is any good.

Why does this post read like one of those PC-Mac commercials where the PC has these pile of guys with errors?

I can't provide any ideas other than not using Vista or OSX.
I installed Vista 32bit on my father's laptop and it was fine. I still put him back on Winxp after he complained of having a variety of problems.
It is young.
It is still buggy.

I've heard lots of horror stories about 64-bit Vista. I went with 32-bit Home Premium, and it seems just fine so far (knock on wood).

Yeah, alpha geek, but when I built my last PC 4 years ago, I built it so powerful that I really didn't even need to replace it, but my kids needed a new computer, so I bought one for me, and they get my old one. At work, we don't use Vista, my other PCs don't have Vista, etc... Darn it.

In regards to PC vs. Mac, it reminds me a lot of the old Error Type 11 with the little bomb on the Mac. I hated that thing! No useful information at all.

There's not a different installer for Photoshop on 64bit Vista, is there?

OK, have you tried right clicking on setup.exe and choosing "Run as Administrator?" Solves a multitude of Vista install problems.

Yeah, I tried run as admin. No luck. I'll shoot a note over to Adobe Support and see if they have any tricks...

I'm still successfully avoiding upgrading to Vista so I can't help much either.

Oddly, no mention on the official Windows support sight. Well, OK maybe not so odd.

Long-time Windows user/developer here. I bought a new laptop about 8 months ago that came with Vista32. Hated it at first. Almost blew it away and went back to XP. But I gave it some time and I've grown used to it now. SP1 is much better than SP0, so make sure you're updated (if SP1 exists for V64).

Is there a particular reason that you're running Vista64? I only ask because everything I've read/seen about Vista seems to point out that Vista64 (and especially many drivers) isn't as stable as V32. Unless there's a specific need, go with 32. On the other hand, Photoshop *is* one of those apps where you may have a real reason for using 64.

But since your'e on 64....

I'm not too familiar with CS3. Do you have the 64-bit version of it? Is that even an issue? As someone else pointed out, make sure you're using the right installer. I'd think that Vista64 would be able to handle a 32-bit installer, but you never know.

If you think it might be RAM related, then by all means, swap out your RAM. If you've got more than one stick, pull one of them at a time and see if you've got a bad one. It does happen.

Try disabling UAC, rebooting, and then doing the CS3 install again. That has solved a few weird problems for me. Hate that stupid feature. Allow or Deny?

Have you tinkered with any of the drivers? I know that some drivers are problematic for Vista in general, and 64 is worse. If you've tinkered with any of them, that could be causing all sorts of strange problems.

What other software are you running on the PC? Any sort of Antivirus or Spyware? Try disabling it and running the install again.

Is this an AMD or an Intel computer? It has been my experience that Intel based systems run Vista better than AMD ones. In the past I've been a fan of AMD, but I have to admit that it seems like the people I know that like Vista are all running Intel Core2Duo systems. Myself included. And the people that dislike it are running AMD systems. Zero proof, but it sort of seems that way.

From what I've read, Photoshop isn't really 64 bit yet, so there would just be the 32 bit installer.

That could be part of the problem...

Nick, how many gigs of ram does your system have? Since you went with V64, I'm going to guess that you have 4GB+?

Vista 32 can only handle 3.2GB of ram, as that's the limit of memory addressing for a 32-bit OS. If your V64 system has 4GB+ of ram, then it might screw up 32-bit installers. If there is any sort of memory check in the installer, and V64 reports 4+GB, it's possible that the installer will blow up.

If you have more than 3.2GB of ram in your system, if you can, remove memory to get your system below 3.2GB. If you have 4GB, then the common setup would be to have 2, 2GB sticks. Remove one of them and just run with 2GB. Yes, your system will run a little bit slower, but it should be fine. Then try the installer. If it works, install, shut-down, and put your memory back in.

Yeah, I've got two 2GB sticks. I will pull one out and try installing again. So far, I have an open "case number" with Adobe, but no answers yet...
UAC is already off, and yes, I am on SP1...

ok i've never posted here before, but i am having the same problem with Photoshop CS3 and internal error 275. i've been pulling my hair out all night over it. i tried the "RegCure" crap and that didn't do anything, tried another CCleaner registry cleaner and that didn't help either. i've found numerous sites mentioning bad Ram...but it doesn't seem to be the case.

oh and i'm not using Vista, still on XP...UGH.

Why don't you think it's bad ram? I've had that happen a few times. Worth a few passes of memtest86, just to be sure.

New installer got me going. Contact Adobe support. They will need your valid registration key info and such...
