Just finished watching “Paprika”

Here’s the grade Anime News Network gives it:

 Quote:

Overall (sub) : A+
Story : A+
Animation : A+
Art : A+
Music : A+
+ Amazing animation and music. Mind-torching storytelling.
− Will absolutely be too weird for some people.

I’ve looked up over 100 anime there and don’t remember any other getting an A+ in every category. I’d have to agree with them. It’s sort of like “Dreamscape” meets “The Matrix.“ I quickly forgot I was watching animation because it just had such a movie like feel. The animation is great and while the surround effects aren’t pronounced the surround speakers do get quite a workout from the music and ambient sounds. This movie was quite a trip and would likely be mind-blowing if watched while tripping.

I liked Paprika all right. I did like the audio a lot. I'll have to watch it again sometime.

I went to see Star Trek with my coworker, her husband, and her daughter. It was entertaining enough, though I wouldn't say the reboot did anything to elevate itself above previous attempts. The over-the-top action and effects got a bit old. Still, for Star Trek, it's about as good a film as you can expect. It's not like George Lucas would be rolling over in his grave.

(Hopefully that joke made Gene Roddenberry roll over in his.)

Thanks for the comment about it. I’m waiting for the DVD to come out, hopefully I’ll have a full “home theater” up and running by then instead of the temp setup I have now. I hope the haven’t made it just another pedestrian action film like I thought they did with “Casino Royale (2006).

I thought it was really quite good. I've been meaning to start a spoiler filled thread about it, but I hadn't gotten around to it. (surprise!)

Star Trek is one of the few films that could tempt me to set foot in a theater again.

Haven't succumbed yet.

Dooooo eeeeet. Although the theatre I was in was poorly equalized and had a blown left front speaker. Sigh.

Ken, should have taken one of your Axioms...for a "small" fee of course!

Well, I was kind of on the other side of the country from my Axioms...

I agree that Halladay gets overshadowed in the league due to being in a small market and playing many seasons on not so great teams, but Toronto fans realize how good he actually is. IMO one of the best pitchers to ever play the game and one of the most consistent and dominating pitchers in recent years. He was actually awarded the player of the week. Pitched a superb complete game against the Yanks. Unfortunetly I don't think he will be playing during the Red Sox series which starts tommorow.
