Can a M60 be used horizontally as a front channel speaker? Switching to new configuration. I'm thinking that the way the actual speakers are laid out in the cabnit, that the sound stage in a 5.1 home theatre would be a little off, but wasn't entirely sure. The lt and rt front (set veritcally as designed) would be about 3.5 feet away from the ends of the horizontal center M60.
Any thoughts as to whether this would effect sound quality at all, since the tweeter would be favored to the lt side or rt side under the actual TV, with the M60 on its side under the TV.

Can it, yes, good idea, not really. The speaker is designed to have a horizontal dispersion when placed in its correct orientation of vertical. If you lay it on its side, your defeating the purpose of the design.

In addition, the Axiom towers have ports that let low bass filter into the room, not a good idea to place them in a cabinet environment even if they are vertical.

So basically, it is not a good idea and really a waste of a good 60, in my opinion.

OK... yea, I knew not to put them in an actual cabinet, however I didn't know what to call the actual wooden frame that makes up a speaker and my father always called it a speaker cabnit. I guess I was trying to reference what you called horizontal dispersion. I figured the Woofer/Mid/Tweeter were placed in a wooden frame (or cabnit) to make a speaker that provided sound in a particular way.
I figured that it wouldn't be the ideal setup for the M60 to be put sideways, but wanted to make sure. I thought that if it was a decent setup, that axiom would advertise that on the speaker pages.

You may have misunderstood what I was trying to say. I was not talking about the cabinet, your father is correct. I was talking about the sound that is coming from the tweeters, mids, etc. The sound has a horizontal pattern to it as it leaves the tweeters. If you turn the speaker on its side, that changes to a vertical pattern.

Your correct, floorstanding speakers are designed a certain way, to be floorstanding, not laying down. Now some people do use 3 m60's, m22's, or even m80's up front, but they have room to keep them all upright.

...with the center placed upsidedown, on top of the display. Its the cool thing to do.

That would be an M80 as a center upside down on the TV.
