To save a little room space you could just use 1" firring strips on the walls instead of outright studs to mount the drywall on.

Yes, the mounts are made to work with the speaker. There are pre-drilled holes (can't remember if it's one or two) and the Axiom FMB screws fit right into those holes without damage.

No pre-drilled holes here. My VP150 is several years old, and came out before the FMB.

Ahh, in that case... not sure, I'd call Axiom.

Contact Axiom and they will tell you where you should mount the bracket. Before they started pre-drilling the speakers they had documents showing where to do it.
