Just to throw my two cents in, I have A/B tested the 60s and 80s and I'd say the difference is enough to get the 80s. They aren't particularly hard to drive, I'm using a C$600 Sherwood Newcastle to drive them to painful levels in a 30x14x8 room and it barely gets warm, certainly no shutdown issues.

Rage - if you go with the Denon 3808, be sure to call 6ave electronics and ask them for their lowest price on the 3808. They offer it over the phone for around $1100, but they cannot advertise that price on the website as (I assume) Denon doesn't want that price advertised. If they happen to ask (though they never have when I've called), you can tell them you saw the deal on avsforums as it is often discussed and advertised there as well.

6ave is an authorized Denon reseller and many of the members of this forum have purchased from them with no problems.

I also agree with the other suggestions to start with a 5.1 system and work your way up from there. You might decide you have no need for the ".2" or the additional two surrounds once you hear what the 5.1 system sounds like.

I didn't try a second pair of QS8s for the back channels (in 7.1), but I did hook up a couple of old bookshelf speakers to try some of that. My room doesn't really have a lot of space for the extra two speakers, but I didn't feel I was losing much sound at all sticking with 5.1 with two QS8s. (also saved me having to figure out how to run and hide the extra cables)

It's easy to over think receiver purchases. Have a look at Onkyo or Denon, and find a midpoint between your budget and the bells and whistles you can do without. (normally stuff like wi-fi music streaming) If you feel like you're going to be obsessive and need new processors every few years or so, you might want to go the separate amp route.

Outlaw has a new processor coming out pretty soon, which looks like a good deal: http://www.outlawaudio.com/products/997.html

Or, if you want to save more, I got the Denon AVR-889 (essentially the same as the AVR-2309CI) for my Epic 80-350 and I must say that I am quite pleased with it. I don't know any other member who has it but I honnestly don't know what more I could ask of an amp for less than 1500$.

My new system: M80s, VP-150, EP-350 and QS8s, Denon AVR-889, Samsung BD-P1500 and XBox360

Yep, for me those features were worth the extra $, but if not, downgrading one model is definitely a viable option.
