Looking back on this post, I'm incredibly disappointed to report that the Rush Blu-Ray shipped first (today).

The wait on the 800 is getting frustrating. \:\(

I'm thinking of getting the snakes and arrown blue ray, however, two things are holding me back - the guys seemed a little sloppy on the snakes and arrows live CD (specifically geddy's voice) compared to previous performances, and I already have several of their concert DVDs.

I guess i'd like to hear feedback on it first, but the blue-ray is very tempting. The review online said that there were a lot of good angles for drummers / musicians to watch the instruments as opposed to just panning the crowd etc.

and btw, I just bought some m60s (n00b thread) and I've never heard rush sound better (they're my favorite band)

If you head over to the rushisaband website there are plenty of early reviews of the DVD. The comments so far are stating that this is their best DVD. I am picking up my copy tomorrow \:\)

So I bought the Snakes and Arrows bluray on Tuesday and decided to watch it tonight. The sound and video are great. This disc focuses more on the band compared to my other favorite Rush in Rio where the crowd is on a feeding frenzy. The S & A disc is more the group and it's music and it's easier for me to just enjoy that music. Now if only they would release some of their cd's in SACD I would be happier. I don't think any Rush fan would be disappointed in this disc. \:\)

I agree, though I've only watched ~6 songs so far. I admit, I skipped to the end to hear The Spirit of Radio as it has always been my favorite song to hear/see them do live.

2 hours and 50 minutes of concert footage, plus all the extras, which I haven't even looked at yet. What I've seen and heard thus far is very good. I find the mix captures the "live" sound very well, much better than other concert DVDs of Rush I've heard.

Looking forward to more time to watch this weekend.

Jason

I loved it. The sound quality is great, and as a drummer, I loved all of the shots of Peart playing. I can finally figure out what the heck is gong on behind those cymbals =)

unfortunately the bonus content is not in HD (though it was originally recorded in Hd, I don't understand why they down-converted it for the Blu-Ray version)

Personally, though the song selection is great for Rio, I wasn't that big of a fan of the DVD because of all of the ambient fan noise and crowd pans. (I feel the same way about a lot of live shows)

then again, I haven't listened to any of my other rush DVDs on my axioms yet.

I couldn't figure out either why the Atlanta show wasn't in HD although the picture quality is still top notch.
Rush In Rio is a noisy DVD however it is enjoyable because it is different.
R30 is a much cleaner looking performance than Rio.
Snakes and Arrows Live has given us superior sound and video \:\)

I plan on looking at it again later, but when i played the BRD yesterday i thought something was seriously wrong with the mix. The band's sound seems kinda low in the mix and almost like there was too much fake echo applied in post with hints of over compression. It was so bad, I did a triple take on my system to see if anything had blown. I'd cycled through some other sources: other concerts, films, games, etc. And everything still seems to be in order, I just think they really missed the mark on the sound on this disc.

Maybe I need a do-over or something on some different tracks, as I tried both the surround and stereo mixes and was pretty disappointed.
