Does anyone have the self titled Collective Soul album? If you do use your axiom speakers and listen to track 3 "World That I Know," and listen for a distinct sounding instrument (probably one of those marraca [spelling?] shaker things) in the far left portion of the soundfield. That just made me happy hearing that, as it's a very minute sound at some points (compared to how loud the volume of the other sounds get), yet it is still clear. I know my Acoustic Research speakers cannot show this detail, but my Sony MDR-V6 Studio's can.

Heh - I am happy.

I find it's more often little stuff like that that impresses me, too.

The subtleties of music are what make me enjoy it (after the 'newness' of the actual music wears off). I just close my eyes and think that I am there and try to localize everything not only left to right but also layering depth wise. I'm glad that I'm not the only wierd person who thinks that is cool - heh.

Hey, I'm with ya' man! It's so friggin' to just try and melt into the music and discover all those little nuances(check out Chesky Records' Guide to Critical Listening-The Ultimate Demonstration Disc).

I demand good soundstage depth from my speakers and I have a weakness for a good 3D soundstage.

Any ideas on where I can find that? I would REALLY like to have something like that to hone my enjoyment and detection abilities .

Take a listen to "December", track 6 on the same CD. At the end there are 4 vocal parts going on, all coming from distinctly different parts of the soundfield.

Exquisite!

Will, I suppose you could try at An die Musik, but the simplest thing would be probably a direct order at chesky.com.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

I'll have to check it out today when I get home. I think the wife has the CD.

DJ Stunna,
So you're a student at JHU? I'm about 10 minutes away in Severn, MD (Anne Arundel county).

Please do - there are a few great songs on that cd (I personally love 3 of them, more than I do with most cd's now adays...)

Cool cool. Maryland is so much nicer than San Diego (where I'm from) in terms of scenery and the like, although I must say, I miss the weather (but not the wildfires - heh).

Mhorgel.. by December you mean track 5 right? Track 6 is another song. If you do mean Track 6, yea, I love that multi-vocal thing. Sounds very nice especially since it isn't overly done.

JohnK, I looked on both of the sites, and sadly, I cannot find the disk [fronw].
