It warming up here, it's -13F right now. Mark I feel for ya frozen water lines are bad news. I hope things work well for ya. I let our water drip all night in fear of this. Luckily they are ok.

Convertible weather?!?! I don't think so, that's keeping my butt in the house because it's too cold outside to do anything weather, that's what that is Peter.

58? Abso-freaking-lutely! It got up to 45 degrees here exactly one week ago today, before this arctic airmass attacked us all.

I'd probably ride my motorcycle to work if it were 58.

It's too freaking hot out here in CA. 70 degrees in SF in January is just wrong. And also the driest January on record so far. We're gonna be hurting bad this year as far as water goes...

Just the opposite here in IL.

I've had a heat gun on the most accessible spot in the pipe for 4 hours now.... and this was AFTER getting up every two hours overnight to run a good amount of water through the pipes. I'm watching it closely in the hopes of actually spotting the likely fire!

Cut a hole in my kitchen ceiling (110 year old plaster lathe, God I wish I had sheetrock) and found the problem: The pipes to the upstairs tubs exist in a large "open" area between the kitchen ceiling and the back porch roof. No wonder the bathtub pipes are subject to freezing.

Trying to decide, (after I presumably get water moving again) whether the problem will best be fixed by cutting a hole in the porch roof to lower someone in or taking down half my kitchen ceiling.

Did I mention frozen pipes really, really suck?

DAMN that sucks.

As the owner of a 99-year old house, I can sympathize. What is this sheetrock that you speak of? You mean some people don't have plaster walls?

I'd think that big hole you just made in your kitchen ceiling would start letting a lot of heat into that space. That ought to help.

The good news is that as soon as you get a trickle going, it should thaw quickly. And the resulting fire from the heat gun will certainly help too. Always look on the bright side.

I used one of those small ceramic fan heaters to keep my ceiling dry, thereby saving the drywall when my roof leaked last winter. Something you might be able to do to get some localized heat there, but these little heaters can throw out a lot of heat so be careful where you place them.
