FYI...I spoke to HSU again and got one other option. I can buy a new amp for it.

$215 for new amp after a $50 credit for returning the old one. This price includes shipping both ways.

I'm leaning towards sending back my existing one to them for repairs, unless I could find someone local that could fix it for a good price.

BTW...repaired amp only has a 3 month warranty

$215 for a new amp including shipping is pretty good, if you liked the original amp. Repaired with shipping will cost near half of that I would think.

HSU repairing the current one is about $120 including shipping.

A new Dayton SA240 is about $125 after shipping. Cutout dimensions are 8.5x8.5, so it should be a perfect fit in the VTF-2.

Would the more powerful 240w Dayton improve the quality of the sub over the HSU amp, or is more power just going to make it less likely that something gets damaged at high volumes?

I'd get it repaired, myself. I'd feel more comfortable with the manufacturer.

That's what I did. I just took it down to shipping at work and sent it off. Hopefully all will be well when it comes back in a couple of weeks. I;ll just have to do without a sub until then. That'll make me wish for M60's or M80's instead of my M22, so I'd at least have some bass.

Now would be a good time to turn up the bass control a few db in the receiver. The M22s are capable of some decent bass.

And take them off of small too

Yeah Jason, the M22s alone have quite good bass for most music material. Adding a few dB of bass boost with the tone control, as Jay mentioned, would to some extent duplicate the upper bass bump that some speakers(e.g. the M3)have built-in and which gives an impression of stronger bass overall.
