Not sure if telekinesis is the correct term, but I think I have some serious persuasive powers.

The other night my wife and I just finished watching dark knight. We were discussing how much we enjoy our HT system. (Without me saying anything just thinking it)She looks directly behind our sitting position and says ..."It would be cool to have another speaker back there".

So that brings me to my question. Turning a 5.1 into a 6.1

I could not do a 7.1 because of my layout, but there is a perect spot for another qs8 directly behind my sitting position perfectly across from the TV. What can I expect from this upgrade? Currently my surrounds are about 25' across from each other and about 2' behind the sitting position. The rear would be about 4-5 feet directly behind us 6' from the ground. Also where would I plug in the 1 rear? Left or right or does it not matter? Thanks guys.

Which receiver are you using? If the receiver does not allow for a 6.1 or 7.1 set up, I wouldn't run a 6th channel at all. If the receiver does do 7.1 usually the manual will tell you to use the left or right rear channel as the 6th speaker, the receiver will do the rest.

I run a 6.1 system, 3 QS8s, and found the rear channel to fill in the gap nicely between my side surrounds and really envelop me in sound, as I have a large gap between my side surrounds as well.

Perhaps he meant that he convinced his wife by mentally lifting her up into the air and threatening to drop her. That would be telekinesis at it's finest.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Tom, I will also guess you have room behind you, I will suggest if you have a spare speaker laying around you could run it as the 6th channel or the pair for 7 channels just to see if you like the system this way, some do not feel it adds enough to the feel of the movie, others like myself find it helps a lot in some situations. If you have more than 3-4 feet behind you I think a pair of direct radiators works best to throw the sound in your direction, 3ft or less another QS works very well, Best thing to do is try a few different scenarios and see which you like the best.
