I got my new computer monitor today and everything looks great.
My question is, my computer has only a VGA input, the monitor has both DVI as well as VGA. I have a VGA to DVI adapter, should I be using that for a DVI connection or does it make any difference?

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

I believe the only benefit would be to stay with DVI at both ends, so no difference should be seen going with DVI down to VGA, but since you have the adapter try it out and let us know.

No, it won't work if you use the adapter. The computer would have to have a DVI output (it's an output, not an input on the computer side) to do anything with DVI.

Thanks Ken, it turns out I couldn't fit the adapter in anyhow, there wasn't enough room on the back of the monitor to fit a cable with an adapter.

Even then, since VGA is merely part of the DVI-I connector, it would be exactly the same as running a VGA cable, just with more cable stress.

And nobody needs more stress these days.
