lol... I guess I should explain. The M60s/M80s as surrounds would be a test, if I don't like them (as surrounds) I would then put them to good use downstairs. If the stands didn't work for me they would pretty much become useless.

to me, spending 1000$+ on speakers is okay... because I WILL put them to good use one way or another... the stands would just sit there and well... do nothing. that's why spending 400$ on them is a tough sell for me. with that money I could get a pair of M3s or put a bit more and get the M22s... at least they'll be doing something more than just sitting there taking up space! lol!

As for the M80s being overkill, I was thinking they would be (but hoping they wouldn't be), and as I mentioned would be going downstairs if they were, and I would pick up a pair of Q8s or Q4s for the 7.1.

So I've got the Q8s, another set of Q8s would be best then? Would a set of Q8s work well with a pair of Q4s? I'm thinking I could get a pair of those and a pair of M60s for downstairs.

Thanks for the invite to audition! I'll check with my travel agent!

The height should be just fine, the only reason to consider the stands would be if you prefer that type of decor.

I think Randy's right, the qs8s are the way to go, but if you're like me and like to do experiments of your own choosing, it might be fun to check out the m80s as surrounds. I thought about that option but was advised against it, at the moment I can't imagine why it would be a better choice, although I've heard four m80s can be a nice setup, especially for SACD playback rather than HT, HT is my main focus.

Why not get 4 m80s and 4 qs8s? Then you could start at the goal and skip the detour, and be good to go downstairs with whichever turned out to be the "extra" speakers (m80s or qs8s, and flesh out the system downstairs as indicated by the initial run).

I started with two M80s so I understand the urge to check things out and build as you go, on the other hand nowadays I prefer to cut to the chase, after all life is short, and within the Axiom lineup for surround sound I don't think you can beat two M80s and four qs8s.

Good luck with your system.

majik,

There is a reason the Q's are probably the most popular surrounds for HT, even the Axiom bashers on AVS can't argue that...Axiom designed them for a reason, to simulate multiple speakers lined along theater walls like you see when you go to a movie. A direct radiating speaker can't envelope you as the movie engineers intended.

Seems like a waste of money for surround affects, but to each their own.

Ahhhh, the old bait and switch.

"Sorry hun, the guys on the forum said they would work great as surrounds. Guess I'll just have to use them in the office/den/mancave. Oh, here, let me help you with those dishes..." ;\)

I totally live by the: "you only live once, life is short, have fun with it" motto... so much so that it is my signature for hotmail!

I think I may just take your advice and get both straight off the bat. No sense dragging out the inevitable!

Can someone tell me if Axiom speaker cable is any better than the 12gauge speaker wire I can get at monoprice? I've read that as long as they're the same gauge, most wires/cables are created equal. True?

I'm also trying to figure out how to hook up the wii to the denon 3808, I already have the PS3 hooked up to it via HDMI... can I just use any component such as dvr in? the reason I ask is that the composite cables look like crap on the 650, so I want to go with component but would like to know before buying the cable.

copper is copper, Axiom has nice quality wire, but you may be able to save money at monoprice, or even local home improvement stores right off the spool.

as long as you get the right gauge for the distance runs, you will be fine.

Axiom's speaker wire has a high strand count. That means more, thinner strands vs. fewer thicker of most 12 ga. wire. The thinner strands makes it easier to work with, if you think that will be an issue.

My Wii is hooked up via component cables to the DVR input, You can rename the input to read Wii through the menu. You should also be able to have the Harmony display Wii as that functions display.
