Hello. I purchase a pioneer 1018 and energy take classic 5.1 home theatre
it is not loud enough for my kids music therefore I put my old tannoy c10 as main speaker ,, well they were old so they blow the woofer on them playing their music .. I wanted to get new stuff that will work with the take classic 5.1 and was looking at the book shelf speaker m22 v2 from axiom...will they do the job or will they be too small ?? my tannoy used to be 24 inch tall and I find them king of big for my living room ... do you know any floor stand speaker not too tall (about 2 ft ) that can do the job ? Living room is 12 x 20 x 10 ft ceiling open concept into a kitchen... also with the new technology does the m22 v2 or any other bookshelf compare to my old Tannoy for loudness ect ?
Thanks

Welcome, barbotte. From my own auditioning, and confirmed by some others who have heard Energy speakers, they have a different sound than Axiom speakers so I would be rather cautious to mix them together. The M22 is an excellent speaker but will likely have a timbre matching problem combined with Energy speakers.

Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

Most floorstanding speakers are taller than 2 feet.

M22's are fine speakers, but would be best placed on stands. The M50's might be a good choice for you; that is a pretty big room.

Have you considered fixing the Tannoys?

Be aware, kids+volume+limited power=blown speakers. You can fry an Axiom too, just add to much clipped signal and you can blow just about any speaker. You might be better off with a some really cheap speakers and just plan to replace them often. Otherwise, you might have to really upgrade to get stable volume over 105dB (LOUD) (oh the good ol days of being a kid...or last week if we are just counting dbs!).

My M22s can fill my open 750 sq. ft. main floor with lots of sound. My brother-in-law has the original take 5s, are yours the originals? I like their sound, I think you could easily add the M22s to your system, but as the others have said, I think the bigger problem is the kids are driving the system harder than your receiver can handle which sends distorted signals to the speakers which will kill ANY speaker.

I think it would be a wise choice to order up a set of M22s and try them out, if you find they do not fit the bill, the return cost of shipping is only about $40. I would be surprised if you did send them back. Conversely, you could check the Hearing Things forum and contact Axiom to see if there is any one nearby that could give you an audition of a set of M22, M60, or M80, the bigger floorstanders do sound similar to the M22s, just with more bass.

Wow, I have the Pioneer 1018. I don't know how efficient those Energy Takes are, but with my old Sonys along with a new part of QS8s, I can't take the volume above -10 dB without me saying, "that's too loud", and backing off to -12 to -15. I did go to -5 once, just trying to get to 0 dB, but there was no way I was going any higher.

It wasn't that the amp was sounding strained and no audible distortion. It was just LOUD.

How high are your kids playing? Tell them to keep it down, or they'll buy the next set of speakers--then show them the price of the Epic 80 - 500 7.2 in high gloss rose wood.

A buddy of mine has the Energy Take 5.1 system and it was decent and played plenty loud in a good sized room.

I imagine your kids are probably looking for more low/deep bass for their music and the Energy 8" sub I believe cannot keep up.

My first 'good' set of speakers were an Energy Take 5 system. I still have them. I still consider them to be pretty good little speakers. A pair of the satellites live in our kitchen now, connected to an old receiver. They provide light background music for cooking & entertaining. They're great for that.

When I first bought my M22's + VP150, I simply dropped them in place of the front Take 5's. So for over a year, I used a pair of Take 5's as my surrounds in my system. They coexisted well together, I thought. Their timbre was close enough that movie effects blended well.

As someone who can directly compare the M22's with Energy Take 5 speakers, I can say that you'll absolutely love the M22's. M22's have *far* more room presence than the little Take's. M22's are just as clean and will deliver equally beautiful highs, but with MUCH more mid and low end. And they'll play considerably louder too. Though like the Take's, you will still need a sub if you want full-range 'reference' levels (i.e., LOUD!!) of sound.

Good luck!
