Zoolander is one of those movies that people either get, or they don't. People either think it's a work of genius, or a load of crap. I'm in the former camp.

Another movie I like that most folks just don't get is "Death to Smoochie". How anybody can possibly not think it is hysterical when Ed Norton sings "Your stepdad's not mean, he's just adjusting" is beyond me.

I have seen several of my favorite movies nominated in this thread, Including Magnolia, Pulp Fiction, Austin Powers, About Schmidt (although what do you expect from somebody who didn't think Waterworld was bad), and Mallrats.

Two universally critically acclaimed movies I think are terribly overrated are Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, but the only movie I ever walked out was Rich and Famous, with Candice Bergen and Jacqueline Bisset

In case anyone's interested, here's the 100 worst films by users of imdb:

I see some of your choices there, but others appear in the TOP 100!

By most accounts 'Manos' The Hands of Fate (1966). According to some this makes Plan 9... look like an Oscar nominee.

Mary, thanks for bringing that list to our attention.

Jeff, my view would be that Plan 9 deserves the edge in this competition over Manos. The "co-stars" of Manos didn't commit suicide until after the film was completed. Bela Lugosi died at the beginning of the filming of Plan 9, presumably due to his reading the script.

Oh my god...you'd didn't just say that did you?

How many times have you watched Raging Bull? To be fair, I didn't "get it" the first time either. Once I did though, it nearly brought me to tears. Robert Deniro's performance is astounding.

Taxi Driver I think is more acclaimed for how different it was for the time than it is a perfect movie on it's own. People just hadn't seen anything like that before.

I recognize that Deniro's performance in Raging Bull is astonishing...I just found the character to be totally unlikable, as were all the other characters in the movie. I found it to be a brilliantly executed, though completely unenjoyable movie.

Of course, I'm the one person in America who likes Mallrats, so what do I know?

I still can't believe anyone liked Magnolia.

Some movies that I have little memory of, other than pain, anger, and hatred: My Left Foot, Red Desert Penitentiary, and The Flintstones. Terrible movies, but not compared to Magnolia.

If you liked Magnolia, you're wrong.
