Denon receivers are a good choice for M80 owners, because they don't have problems with 4 ohm loads. If you're not getting the in-wall version of the M80s, I would say Pioneer is as good a choice as any.

cb, if you like the features of the Pioneer there is no reason not to choose it.

The 3808 came last night, hooked it up today, have sound coming out of the speakers, that may be enough for now, until I have time to dig in to the feature set.

BTW the feature upgrade currently is free if you buy the 3808 now through March 31, although originally the cutoff was December so they may continue to extend the rebate offer if you purchase after that.

Well of course I have run audyssey and programmed the harmony one remote, so far the results seem pretty nice, I was afraid of the manual from all the horror stories I had heard, however I must admit the basic layout of the manual, gui, and remotes (used in tandem to get all the hard buttons) was actually better than the 663 manual, gui, and remote.

Having trouble hooking up 3808 to the home network, I get the message from the Denon "network problem," no additional info provided. I have run a quick search, "3808 network problem" on Axiom forum SE and standard Google and come up with nothing much. Can anyone point me to a thread where I figure out what's up? I am running an AT&T wireless gateway (wired/wireless modem/router combined in one) and attempting to access the network via a Netgear powerline ethernet adapter.

BTW don't I need to be connected to the network to get the firmware update/feature upgrade or can I download to a usb stick and transfer that way.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions,

Well, there's your problem.

Seriously, those things are notorious for causing trouble. Have you tried connecting a laptop or another computer-like device to that jack, something which will give you a little more feedback as to the nature of the issue?

Another thread here that recommends the powerline adapters, I've always used with no trouble, I tried turning off upnp on everything because supposedly that's an issue, turned of the firewall within the modem to the 3808, now I get "connecting . . . assigning network . . . network problem," the 3808 is visible from within the modem itself.

Well I'm frustrated with the network issue yet pleased overall with first impressions, I think once things are sorted out I will be happy to have some real features, so to speak, I mean the Yamaha wasn't completely lame and did diagnose that one of the rear surrounds was out of phase (bonehead installers, what you can do, the center was wired out of phase too but I figured that out myself because I had to monkey with it for some reason), can't wait to get the feature upgrade and internet music, Denon is closed at the moment so that will have to wait.

As far as the new receiver advice question, the only feature I feel I would still want was some way to combine the auto eq with tweaking by ear, that's one of the reasons I have been holding out. JohnK states that on the 3808 they are mutually incompatible, your choices are either 1) auto parametric eq, or 2) graphic eq tweak by ear. Interesting because the review of the 972 on audioholics of the October 2008 demo of the 972 stated, to paraphrase, well the auto setup sounded pretty good but of course any serious HT enthusiast would want to followup and perform additional tweaking of the settings by ear. It was not clear to me if the 997 or 972 Trinnov implementations will allow tweaking of the auto functions, but if they did that might be a nice, if not killer or must have, feature. Academic for me as it turns out due to technical difficulties I was forced to abandon the wait and the 3808 will be my processor for the foreseeable future.

Well to our eye this evening the video on the 3808 was noticeably superior to the 663, crisper, more vivid, and the dvr is again working properly (not breaking up, long story that I will share if it turns out the fix is actually in, haven't even broached this one, 2 tb external hard drive). Well time will eventually tell but things are looking up. \:D

Are you talking cool as in its heat output? Otherwise, specify a feature. \:\)
