Well the correct answer would be to trade them IN for even bigger ones and lose the nagging wife.

That stuff from the factory outlet is $1,407. The price for four-year-old gear should be less than that. But how much less depends on many other factors that none of us can help with. Condition of the speakers, the overall willingness to sell, the level of friendship, etc. The 'correct' price is the price that the buyer and seller agree to. Nothing more, nothing less. If you really need some sort of 'blue book value' for the speakers, about the only thing you can do is to search eBay or Craigslist. Though Axiom speakers are pretty hard to come across on the used market (which should tell you someting ). You may not find much to go on. I agree with the others though. Perhaps your friend should tell his wife that he's thinking of trading her in on a smaller model too. PS: Do tread carefully with this thread. Axiom is very tolerant when it comes to what we can discuss here. But one thing they really frown upon are 'for-sale ads'. I'm not saying that's happening here, but just a warning for where this might be headed.

Why does your topic say these are "my old Axioms" and the text say they belong to your "friend."

Hard to answer any better than just getting on the net and comparing speakers in the same price range. This is competition to Axiom (the "friend" wants Axioms!) so I agree with Peter that Axiom may not appreciate if these speakers become available at some point in this thread.
(Unless they are real cheap, them PM me!) Just kidding...but seriously.

The price to sell your "friends" Axioms, is the price you can get for them. That should really be done by one's own investigating on a generalized audio forum or on one of the used audio sites.

Wow, that's an odd combination because the EP125 only goes about 4 Hz lower than the M50. I would suggest your friend offers a compromise to his wife to sell the subs only (and buy her a nice gift), and keep the rest of the speakers. It would take up much less real estate and the sound would be about the same.

Hmmm, This thread inspired me to do an EBAY search on Axiom. I wonder if this guy selling Axiom Home Theater 'signs', actually stickers if you read the fine print, is licensed. Sticker Dude

Sticker Dude I came across that seller a while ago and was wondering the same thing. There's others here in Canada doing the same but they are signs.

HAHA, no, it really is for my friend. He has no idea about equipment or anything. He was just a 60 year old dude with cash (at the time) and needed help getting the best. I have my Axioms and in no way would ever sell mine! I put “my” in the title because you are only allowed a certain number of characters for the title. I felt it better explained in the thread itself, since there was not enough space for "my friends". Too funny though.
No, he can't trade down to a smaller size. His wife rules the roost and they have *Gulp* small Bose speakers hooked up now. I know, I know. His woofer may be the 175 or 350. It's been 4 years since we got them. He's an old work friend, I rarely see anymore, but is still really good friends with my father. The other friend is a friend from where I work now.
So, all that out of the way. These are both friends of mine. I don't want to screw either. I wish the owner of the speakers didn’t want me to price it. If we can’t list prices here, can anyone email me their thoughts (recommendations) on a price to tell him? I would greatly appreciate it. I feel this would be the fairest way to do this. You know, people who really know the worth. Bottom line, I really don’t know how to depreciate them.
Thank you in advance!

If he is trading in his speakers for a smaller model, he should trade his wife in for a smaller model too. Or since they went to a completely new model, as in get rid of the Axioms and in with the Bose, maybe he just needs a completely new wife too. Bose over Axioms? He has to be crying inside. On the plus side, maybe the new Axiom Accents will be a reasonable choice when they come out.

When buying used items, unless very recently(1yr old) purchased, I look to buy for about half of new value and then haggle from there.

C'mon, guys, don't be mean This subject has come up a few times before in the context of "how much should I pay for used Axioms ?". I think there was a loose consensus around 60% of the new price, starting lower or higher depending on which direction the haggling would be going. For some reason the search page doesn't like me today.

I have this one. From that same guy. I bought it about a year ago. I put it out on the rare occasion when I have friends over for an Axiom demo. I'd be surprised if it was actually licensed by Axiom. I hope it isn't, because it's about the cheapest sign imaginable - cheap plastic backing with metallic vinyl stickers for the logo. No sort of coating or silkscreening. You could easily peel the stickers off if you wanted. Easily. To be fair, he doesn't hide the fact that it's pvc plastic and vinyl stickers. I got about what I was expecting. The logo is accurate and it looks pretty good from across the room. For the ~$12 that I paid for it, it's ok. Any more though and I'd be disappointed. I would have cheerfully paid Axiom for an 'official' one, but they don't make them. Hmmm, This thread inspired me to do an EBAY search on Axiom. I wonder if this guy selling Axiom Home Theater 'signs', actually stickers if you read the fine print, is licensed. Sticker Dude

Seconded. If you insist on a dollar figure, I'll throw out $800-$900. As I sit here pondering the situation, that is the 'fairest' number I can come up with when trying to balance my thoughts from both a buyer and seller perspective. At the high end, as the price creeps above $1,000, I find myself thinking that as a buyer I'd rather just spend $1,400 on a new/outlet set from Axiom. At the low end, I'd consider anything less than $600 to be a 'steal' for the buyer. So splitting the difference, IMHO, $800-$900 is a 'fair' price.

Actually, he did disclose that they were stickers, at least when I looked.
As for licensing, I was more curious than complaining. I figure that until Axiom is interested in making it's own signs, it's free advertising for Axiom as long as he doesn't present the brand in derogatory or unsuitable fashion. If I thought they might jump all over him, I wouldn't have posted it or If I felt the need, I would have made it a private email to Axiom.
I'd like something similar for my new HT room, assuming it gets finished in my lifetime. Hopefully by end of May as I finally admitted to myself (for real this time) that I won't do the seam filling myself and hired someone. he arrives in a couple of weeks.
Return from Hijack: I think considering the age, I'd be looking for 60% off current pricing at the very least but I'm a very nerveous person when it comes to making used purchases.

I always thought the ports on the M80 were a bit - well, "real" looking. I did not realize they served another purpose.
Gives a whole new meaning to "port noise".

I would agree with a price of 40-50% of the original purchase price considering that they are 4 years old and considering our economic environment.

If this is a sale between two friends(as it sounds), then more than likely the potential buyer knows how they were looked after, which may make the buying decision less risky.
