Rick, have you also watched an upscaled SD version of Patton to compare it with? I don’t have BR yet and am still on the fence but if any hot deals come along the season I might take the plunge. I’ve compared “The Great Escape” updcaled SD and a HD version on HDNET. About the only real improvement I noticed was I liked the way the HD version was scaled to fit the 16x9 screen but then I can do that locally but not quite as well. Any improvements in the audio?

I can't recall the exact details, but my grandfather (mom's dad) served under Patton for a short while. I think in the capacity of an aide. Shoot, now I'm gonna have to call my mom and ask her if she remembers more.
Unfortunately, my grandfather died when I was really young and I never got a chance to ask him about his experiences.

That’s cool. I have an uncle in law who was in the 3rd Army at the end of the war but AFAIK he never actually saw Patton though he really admires him.

My mom's dad had ammonia poured down his nostrils by Nazis to try to get him to give up information about the whereabouts of a group of Polish resistance fighters they knew he was a part of. He didn't break, so they put him on a cattle car to Auschwitz. Fortunately for my existence, he escaped before the train reached its destination.
He died before I was born, thanks in no small part to his damaged respiratory system. ![]()

I wish I had a chance to ask about my grandfather's stories.

Yeah. He's at #1 on the list of people (dead or alive) that I'd most like to meet. Sometimes I wish I believed more strongly in the whole life after death thing....
