Water-ski Arkansas Style

These are two friends of mine while they were working in Arkansas, the skier is still out there, the narrator works with us here in south Florida now ... I've known them both for about 20 years.

How cool is that!

That looks dangerous, he could bury that wheel and it's one nasty wipeout.

He should get some Alaskan Bush Wheels :-)

That is amazing. Is that as difficult as it looks! Looks like he has to have rock steady control, and pray a breeeze does not show up! ;o)

I suppose it's harder for a plane to catch an edge than it is for a water skier, right?

Pretty cool, but you have to wonder whether the pilot got the idea in his head while drunk or sober. ;\)

It's not difficult or as dangerous as you might suspect, at those speeds the water feels just like concrete and the wheels are rolling so there isn't really that much friction. The guy flying, Jon, is 60 and doesn't drink ... maybe he should start? \:\)

The tundra ties on those Cubs are cool, I once worked for guy in Corpus Christi, TX that had a set of those tires mounted on a Super Cub so that he could land on Padre Island to fish the flooded estuaries on the island, would strap the rods'n reels onto the wing struts and have the cooler in the baggage compartment for his fish. I went with him a few times and man we did catch some big black drum, redfish and trout from those flood waters.

yeah, pretty crazy and cool, I would also think that if for whatever reason the plan dove down a bit it would be an end over end disaster.

The narrator was the braver of the two. He was one sneeze away from having a video of a plane cartwheeling into his lens. As a kid I loved watching crop dusters. My father used to help them when he was little, he would stand in the field to help direct them to the row or whatever so pilot could line up correctly. I wish that had been after they banned DDT.

Bush pilots use water for landing / take off quite a bit. Sometimes they set down on river banks to pick up hunters. Bush pilots tend to be a bit crazy though...
