I saw an interview with Geddy Lee in Entertainment Weekly in which he said they played Limelight about ten times to get all the scenes right.

I'm happy!

Whoever said "Living on a lighted stage approaches the unreal" must have know something about stages.

I watched Sulmdog Millionaire over the weekend and I found it somewhat underwhelming. Maybe I had my expectations too high since it won best picture. I did like the 'rhythm' of the film, not too fast or too slow , decent acting and music. On the other hand, I rarely complain about a film 'message' but the message on this one is far too foreign for me; to imply that everyone has a fixed written destiny is pretty silly... to me at least. I liked Changeling way more, and it wasn't even nominated for best picture.

You know, I didn't even really think about the message. It's not exactly an uncommon theme, though it doesn't have weight for me, either. But yeah, I'd say I liked the filmmaking more than the story. I wouldn't have nominated it for best picture, but then I wouldn't have nominated Changeling, either, though I liked both movies. I'm not really sure what I would have nominated.

Watched Slumdog Millionaire last night. I found it a fascinating movie with some half decent sound. I think the message was - rising above your caste, which in India would still be quite uncommon . The lead character was a muslim in hindi India which probably was another strike against him. I was trying to think of a parallel situation of that in Canada / US but couldn't.

I watched it last night as well and, though I enjoyed it, I don't see it a "best picture."

I think a large number of North Americans might have trouble understanding the import of the "caste" thing which in India, I suspect, is a biggie.

yeah, I know. What I can't get my head around is ...I don't know. Maybe I'm too Hollywood indoctrinated :P

Just finished watching Cash Back with my wife on Netflix Instant. She wanted to watch a chick flick and I actually thought it would fit the bill. It turned out not to be a chick flick at all, but she enjoyed it anyway.

If you like creative cinematography, a great story, good acting by unknown faces, quirky characters, British accents -- oh, and more bare breasts than you can shake a stick at -- then I highly recommend seeing this movie.

Tonight I watched the Keanu Reeves remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. It looked pretty good on Blu-ray, and there were some good LFE moments that showed of the EP500 to our two guests. Keanu has found his niche - he was very convincing as a wooden alien. I'd give it a B overall, maybe a B-. Good message, even if it was a little ham-handed, and the military response was ever-so-stereotypical.
