Doubt on Blu-ray. I'd heard it looked good, but I was still surprised by how beautifully-shot it was. The audio was subtle and well-done, too. I can also see why the performances have received such praise. Viola Davis wasn't in it a lot, but wow. The story wasn't a home run for me, but I enjoyed it enough.

I used to like that one but it wasn't a regular watch. I agree it was 'solid.' What it sometimes lacked in writing was usually made up for by the talented cast. Matheww's (Andy Dick) scene where he sings a song about slaying some monster with a plus three magical sword is the biggest reason why I stopped telling people that I used to play Dungeons and Dragons.

As for Summer Glau, I liked her in Firefly but she is mostly eye candy as a terminator. Although, to give her credit, playing a machine that is supposedly totally devoid of emotion, would be a tough role to get any cred for.

I watched Doubt a few days ago, wow, really liked it! Superb performance and script. I did find the very last scene a little too superfluous and 'forced' , other than that it is excellent. Still I can't see how SlumDogs would rank better than Doubt.

Super Speedway [Blu-ray]

I owned the original DVD release, but I think I gave it to my dad after watching it a couple of times. They eventually released a remastered version that seemed to be considered a reference disc by some. After it came out on Blu-ray and became available for a decent price, I decided I should revisit it. I don't find it the most compelling documentary ever, but I do enjoy the experience of speed and engines roaring. There's certainly some fun audio, and it's nice to have the impact of my current system versus the much more modest experience the last time I viewed it, when I was really only starting out in HT with hand-me-down pieces from my dad.

I just started watching the BBC/A&E Pride and Prejudice on Blu-ray. I'm pretty happy with the restoration. It's a little weird if the UK release actually has a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track while the US release has LPCM 2.0. Anyway, the audio's fine.

I liked this version of Pride and Prejudice way back when I first watched it, and I'm sure I'll still enjoy this release of it, but right off it's pretty apparent how much more well-directed the newer Keira Knightley movie is. I think they really knocked the material out of the park with that one. As far as the Jane Austen screen adaptations I've seen, I'd say that version along with the Emma Thompson Sense and Sensibility are in a league of their own. I can't wait to see those two released on Blu-ray, and I really hope they have the best possible transfer for S&S. I'm not so worried about P&P since the HD DVD was so strong.

One of my major problems with the BBC version of P&P is that I don't find the actress who plays Jane Bennett attractive, while I really like the face of the actress who plays Elizabeth. The Jane in the newer P&P worked a lot better for my shallow sensibilities.

Don't worry. I'll watch something with explosions afterward.

I can't believe someone else actually watched these \:\) My wife's been on a Jane Austin kick, so we've watched every version of Pride and Prejudice as well as Sense and Sensibility, in addition to a few other movies made from her novels.

Charles I have to agree with you wholeheartedly on the attractiveness of the women in the BBC version, the one who played Elizabeth was the only gal that IMO was attractive, I'm not sure what the English find attractive but they certainly have different taste than my wife and I.
