Our church is looking at replace the 30 year old Allen organ. No pipes.
We have looked at Rodgers, Allen, and Viscount models so far.
Two keybords with pull stops and tons of electronics on theses newer models.
This is probably a $50,000 purchase.
Anyone with any experience in this area?

I believe my old church bought a Rodgers, although I'm not certain about that. At the time, it had superior numbers of voices (more than 12!), and had a better sound. Our organist was fairly exacting; she was a music professor as her other job, so we had to get an organ that suited her. I'll double check with my father as to the brand.
My only complaint about the organ was that the chimes didn't sound right at all.
EDIT: Yup, it was a Rodgers, purchased in the early 90s.

I think you should have Tacoma's Paul Fritts build you one. Tremendous! I'm pretty sure he's out of your price range. Still...

Thanks Ken! The Rodgers 678 has 112 voices including 50+ orchestral instruments, and the ability to record and playback on a usb thumbdrive.
Tom......WAY over our budget

Or rather, not voices, but simultaneous notes--the Allen only had 12. Mixing things up.
I can find out more from the organist if you want.

What I would like to know is if the organ ever needed service and if so, was it satisfactory?

Word is, there was a guy who came in a few times early on to fine tune it, fix up a few things after the install, but my father says he doesn't recall it ever needing service. They moved churches about 5 years ago.
Also, he says he was on the selection committee for the thing, and my parents were pretty close to the organist.

What I would like to know is if the organ ever needed service and if so, was it satisfactory? Oh, yeah. This is a church organ thread.
