Can anyone recommend a decent 2 channel receiver or integrated amp that has built in bass management for subwoofer? - preferrably an adjustable crossover that will allow M22's to be relieved of deep base duty. Most of the entry level Onkyo/Denon/HK's I've seen do not have this function, although they may have sub/pre-amp outs. I am currently using an old Onkyo model that does not have sub or pre-amp outs. I would like to stay under $400 budget if possible.
Thanks.

I'm sure you've thought of this, but why aren't you allowing the crossover in your subwoofer to handle this situation?

Probably because he doesn't want to run the speakers through the sub. I know I didn't like the sound of that when I did it.

The crossover on the sub only affects the sub - the M22's still get full range signal if connected thru the sub.

I would use the crossover on the sub. Even though the M22's will get the full signal, at some point their freq response will drop off, and then you can adjust the sub's crossover accordingly.

I woudl think that with most, when you set the speakers to 'small' it automaticly fixes in a certain cross over. Same are not exactly what you would want(I believe the best spot is at 80, some reciever do it at 100).

Try reading some of the manuels online, as it should say what it sets it at.

The non-surround receivers I have seen do not give you the small/large option. They send the full signal to the speakers and the sub out.

Another option is to get a surround receiver and configure it for 2.1.

Peter, since you were able to verify earlier that the statement on the Hsu site about a high-pass output on the VTF-2 was incorrect, you have good reason to look for a way to achieve that(although the difference won't be huge). I haven't done an exhaustive search, but I'm not aware of any stereo receiver or amp of moderate cost which has a variable crossover sub output which would also high-pass the mains. As Curtis mentioned, you can consider a multi-channel HT receiver and use it for stereo, although you'd then be ready to expand your system if you'd want to. Two inexpensive receivers which have variable 80-150Hz crossovers are the Denon 1804(under $400) and the JVC 8030(under$300).
