okay... something's wrong... I'm not getting ANYTHING from the sub... Can someone please take me through the steps, one at a time so I can get this up and running? I connected my rg6 sub cable to the receiver (it clearly says "subwoofer") and the line in on the sub....

I'm not getting this... is there a setting on the denon that I need to know about?

To adjust the bass via the receiver you use the tone controls which are located under Parameters-Audio-Tone. That option gives you minor adjustments +/- dB. Did you calibrate everything with a SPL meter first?

As far as the settings on the sub go, if it's the same as my EP500, it should be set to bypass, trim flat, and phase to 0. Trim and phase are dependent on the room and what sounds better.

Hope that helps. I hope even more that its accurate.

Maj, rather than using the LFE+Main sub setting so as to get the sub working, the better procedure in my view would be to set the main speakers "Small" and the the sub to "LFE", not "+". You have a superb sub and should allow it to handle the low bass which it does best by itself. Setting the mains small allows this and takes some of the load off them so that they can handle the rest a little more cleanly. You should set an appropriate crossover from the mains, most likely 80Hz, in the receiver.

Study the manual for the EP800. Set the "crossover" to the highest number or bypass(if available)to get it out of the way of the crossover that the receiver will be doing.

There's no trim setting on the EP800 unless they modified the amp again since I got my replacements. The crossover maxes out at 150, with no bypass setting.

Charles, you're undoubtedly correct. I didn't have access to a EP800 manual and was giving info most relevant to the 500/600. As was said, if bypass isn't available the control should be set to the 150Hz max.

Thanks John, I just made the recommended adjustments and you were right.

Should the filter on the sub be on or off?

Does anyone have this setup (denon 3808 and the epic80 with the ep800)?

If so, what is your setup? I know settings depend on the size of the room and such, but just curious. My room is 25' x 12' x 9' with open spaces to the kitchen, the and the stairs to the basement. I'm going to put pics up in a bit to give you a better idea.

By putting the mains to "small" and the sub to LFE, I have cut out the subs on the m80s, right?

By setting the M80's to small with a crossover of 80 everything below that point the EP800 will play. The M80's will take care of the rest.

Keep the subsonic filter on the sub OFF unless you do not want it to play frequencies less than 20Hz. (It's in the manual)
