FYI-Mine run only slightly warm at moderate volumes. Even when driven extremely hard I can still place my hand on them, never too hot.

In terms of design, they will be warmer in A mode, but when they switch over to AB mode, they should run cooler. Ken, I can say they have to have airflow around them... I can't put mine in my AV cabinet as the top one gets way to hot. However, I have one in the AV cabinet, and the other one in the back closet behind everything out of sight, now they are only just warm to the touch.

I think the A/AB type amp in general will run warmer without good ventilation.

Just wait until you break them in over time, this is one piece of equipment I'd about swear has opened up with time and the soundstage and instruments sound better. I leave mine on all the time to keep them fully charged.

Yea Randy, I leave mine on 24/7 per Klaus. As to the breakin time, it was so funny when I asked Klaus...

"so Klaus, are they gonna blow me away right out of the box?"

Klaus answered "NO! They will sound like sh*T right out of the box"

That floored me, then he went on to explain they get better and better with time. Personally, I thought they sounded great out of the box. I have 140 hours on them. I don't know if it's me or the amps, but today I put in Alan Parsons Project Essentials CD and it was just jaw dropping already. I can't imagine them getting better.

It's strange, they are so different from the RPA-2. The other day I was just doing some casual listening (can't remember what was playing) when I thought I heard someone tapping on the window next to my couch. I actually got up and walked over to it and realized it was the freakin CD that was playing. It was awesome! The sound was everywhere, yet only playing from my M80's. \:\)

How much electrical consumption do those bad boys take while in on/standby mode?

Dr. House,

Klaus told me when idling, each amp will consume about as much as a 25 watt light bulb. FYI

Being a fan of external amps myself I think I'm qualified to call this bs. It could be a safety factor leaving those amps on. If you ever have the unfortunate accident of those amps going south (catch on fire) with the family sleeping this could turn bad real quick.

I think this is a very bad practice to get into.

I know Rick, I was unsure about all this myself. I can say there is a whole community of seperate amp people on Audio Circle that think we are all BS. I don't know, the Symphonic Line (what Odyssey is based on) has been around a long time, and both manufacturers explain this in the owners manual. I guess I don't design amps, so can't comment on the validity of the capacitors being drained and other breakin terminology. I can say that the amps do sound a little "thin" at first when they have been unplugged for some time, and do appear to open up, or whatever you want to call it, after being used for some time. BS, maybe, but Klaus has been around a long time and it very well respected in the amp community.

I wouldn't take a chance with leaving them on no matter the reason Randy. If it has a power supply, and we know it does of course, it has a chance of catching fire. No matter how small the risk; risking your lovely family isn't worth leaving those damn amps on.

I know Rick, appreciate the concern. Right now I'm not even using them, they are unplugged. Had to rearrange some things when I got the Bluray player, not enough room in my opening. My fault when designing the room, if I only would have copied Rick2's setup. \:\)
