When I started reading the original post and how the second one died and the OP was looking for another amp i started thinking... Odyssey... scroll down a ways.. Oh. A happy ending after all \:\)

I've had my khartago mono's for about 2 1/2 years now and havent had any problems with them. Been powered up 24/7 since i got them and cranked everyday. I did have to adjust the bias and DC offset on one of them because it was way off somehow. Not something the average person would even notice. I didnt until I measured those specs with a meter. Other than that though they have been great. They dont blow up because my M80's go down too low in the bass.. they can crank at near uncomfortable levels for hours no problem. Although they will get pretty hot if Im doing that... But I do run the bias a little higher than normal IIRC.

I do have the dreaded phono preamp issue with my tempest preamp I bought used but I dont use the phono section anyway so although that was kind of dissapointing It wasnt worth me sending the unit back for a repair or upgrade.

The same could be said for pretty much any electronic device. Tv's microwaves, toasters, subwoofers, computers, battery backups. Its one reason they have fuses. Granted the amps dont have a UL rating like most consumer products the chances of a fire arent any greater than anything else...

Same here, I'm glad you are happy with your mono's! How do you like your tempest? I was seriously looking at the candela...

I was extremely surprised to find out that Bryston's plant is in my small city of Peterborough.

I like the tempest quite a bit... Built solidly, always works... what more could i really want. Like i said, I lucked out and mine has an issue with the phono preamp interacting with my power or something along those lines which causes humm in the phono section but besides that its great.

Thanks Haoleb,

I'm undecided about the solid state tempest or the tube candela. Without hearing them both, its a gamble for sure. Only couple hundred $ difference in price. What to do, what to do...

Take care,

Dduval

I still love my RPA-2 amp driving my M80's, hasn't missed a beat.

I can drive the amp to clipping (red light comes on) but that has not changed since I bought them. And listening at that level while not painfull makes me wonder about my hearing over time.

The best part is the amp runs cool and listing for hours at loud volumes during parties never concerns me anymore.

Anyway I am sad you had such a bad experience. I would have been curious if it would have went to the right channel if you switched the speakers. Anyway glad to hear you are enjoying the M80's with your new amp.
