Hi,
I'm eagerly waiting for my Epic 80 set to arrive and I'd like people's opinion on where best to hang my left rear QS8.

The photo shows a couple of options (white pieces of paper cut to size and taped to the wall)

As you'll see, the left piece I have control of the height, however it's way outside the Dolby angle of 20 degrees (more like 45)

The right piece is only 5 inches from the ceiling (which slopes toward the right side of the room)

So what are people's opinions? Left paper or Right paper

For some context of where the right speaker might go, I've stuck another paper in the following photo

I would go with the right piece and match the height of the speaker on the other side if possible.

I see the papers, but where's Waldo?

I'd probably go for the right paper. There's 5" of clearance above the speaker in that position? Is that right? That should be all right.

Shady, since these are the side surrounds in a 5.1 setup, they should be positioned just slightly farther back(maybe 2') than directly to the side. This is more significant than the height factor, so I'd suggest the right paper and match it on the other side of the room.

As John said, you don't want to be TO far back from the side position. It is hard to tell from the picture how far your considering, but slightly behind is what you want. I would say height is not a huge deal, but as close as possible the same distance back would be important.

IT'S UNANIMOUS! \:\)

Axiom's FAQ states: "Ideally, surround speakers should be either wall-mounted or stand-mounted to either side of the couch or primary listening area, from one to six feet higher than seated listeners' ears, and slightly forward or rearwards of the listening area if you wish."

So, the height should be no problem.

The down firing woofer of the speaker may be slightly affected by the curtain beneath it, but any absorption of the driver's output that may occur should be negligible (maybe 1 or, at most, 2 dB) and, if necessary, easily corrected with the setting in your receiver. Shucks, if any absorption occurs, it may even be offset by the reflection of the top woofer's output off the ceiling. Nothing about which to be concerned.

I suspect that, due to the sloped ceiling being higher on the other side of the room and there being no curtain to affect the speaker, the output of the two surrounds will be slightly different. Again, correctible in the receiver's settings and nothing that need be of concern.

Set it all up, sit back, and enjoy.

Shucks, I agree with Jack.
