I have heard many great things about Axiom speakers. I'm looking to upgrade my speakers. My room is about 22ft wide by 28ft deep. The viewing area is about 16' wide x 14' deep with an open area behind it. This is a basement with carpet and 8' walls all plastered including the ceiling. I am all set for a sub. This will be for 95% home theater use and 5% for music. I currently have a Denon avr788 receiver. Here are my questions:

Will the avr788 be enough to power the new Axiom speakers?
With that size of a room/viewing area will the vp100 be fine or would I need to goto the vp150?
For fronts what should I go with m22, m50, or m60?
for the rears what would be best for mainly home theater one of the bookshelves or the qs4 or qs8?

I can probably spend a max of about $1300. Anything else would probably be at least 3-5 years before I would be able to purchase anything else.

Option 1 get the m60 & vp100 use my old bookshelf speakers for rears? My old bookshelves are 20 year old american acoustics with 8" woofers.

Option 2 get the m60 and vp150 use my old bookshelf speakers for rears?
Option 3 get the m50's, vp100 or vp150, and qs4?
Option 4 same as 3 but go with the m22's instead of qs4's?
Option 5 you pick.

Thanks

Get the M80s and use a phantom center plus use the old speakers as surrounds.

Welcome to the Axiom forum!

I think the M22's, VP150 and QS4 combo would work nicely in your room for a 5.0 setup . What are you using for your subwoofer (.1)?

Cheers!

Rick, M80s were not even listed as an option.....you M80s guys are incorrigible. ;\)

Seriously, options 1 or 2 are best.........IMO.

M22s would fill your viewing area pretty well. Do you ever want to listen from behind the theater area? If not, I would go with the M22s VP of choice and the QS4s. With that space, you could use the old bookselves for rear surrounds.

That's a huge room and I feel with the Denon the M80s would be what I would recommend.

You really should take a listen to them. Bring those M60s over and we can compare the two.

Wid. It is a big space, but I'm thinking that if he watches from 14' away the M22 would do. 5 years is a long time to wait for decent surrounds. \:o

For the space behind I was going to use the old bookshelves as background noise while playing cards, but that's only 3-4 times per year so not a big deal. The receiver is set to be able to play an extra 2 channel zone

My sub was custom made for me. Here's the specs from the builder.

JL Audio's 13W1v2-4 driver and a 300W rms Bash plate amplifier. I did a ground plane measurement at 3 feet from the woofer cone. I was out in the open at minimum 25-30 feet from any large objects.

I used a RadioShack Analog SPL meter for testing with C weighting and slow response. I was just starting to get a touch of audible noise at 20hz, however it is just below the tuning frequency of 21hz. Most of the noise was due to the amplifier reaching a bit past it's limit I am sure.

20hz - 100db corrected actual 107.5db

22hz - 104db corrected actual 109db

25hz - 106db corrected actual 111db

30hz - 110db corrected actual 113db

35hz - 110.5db corrected actual approx. 113db
