Hi All,
I noticed Sony hasn't been regarded to highly, but that's cool I can understand. I have the Sony STR-DE685, and most of my two front channels are no name speakers, my rears are little JVC sattelites, and my beutiful center is the Axiom VP-100. The questoin is I wanted to get some nice floor speakers, most likely the m50ti's (due to my budget). But I was wondering if my reciever is going to get in the way of my little theatre I'm creating in my 11x20 foot room. I also was had a little issue my the audio from my center speaker. I don't think it's actually the speaker, but when I watch movies the dialogue from the center is really quiet, and all the action is super loud. I can't turn up the center because when action comes up I don't want to blow the thing. I also have the center set to "small" on my reciever, is that right or wrong.

Thanks for enduring my huge post, thanks to all who reply!

-Dave

Can you change the volume of your center only?

Most recievers can do this and I am guessing your Sony can too.

Look in your reciever set up manual about how to change speaker levels.

ya I can adjust the volume, which is fine. But when some loud action comes on it's way too loud! Then when it's just talking it's too quiet again!?

Is there a specific movie that this happens with?

Or is it any movie?

I have a Sony STR-DE825, and recently bought a pair of M60s.

First, don't worry about your receiver "getting in the way" of the speakers. The speakers will sound great. Not to say I wouldn't like to upgrade my receiver at some point in the near future, but the receiver certainly does the speakers justice.

Secondly, dialog coming from the center channel is often much quieter than the "action" (explosions, etc.) that comes from the other channels. DVDs soundtracks can be very dynamic, mimicking the movie theater experience. If you want to counteract the sudden changes in volume, use the Dynamic Range Compression on the receiver, or raise the volume level of the center channel a bit.

Just my $.02.

Scott

try testing the center channel alone and then try the mains alone. It may be frontal action that should be just coming from the center is coming from the mains, which can make it a lot louder.

Try setting the center to large and see if that helps. Are you front speakers floor standing? If so, are they set to large? Do you have a sub? If you have a sub, then small should be OK, If no sub then set all the front speakers and center to large.

I do have floor standing speakers that are set to 'Large', the center is set to small simply becuase the speakers were movin' a little to much for my taste. I didn't want the bass to blow em'. I have a sub a kenwood 150watt with 10 inch woofer (which isn't really that good.) I noticed that it does do it with certain movies (such as Tomb Raider 2). I will give the D.Range a go though.

I appreciate all the suggestions!

One other thing, should my VP100 be set to Large, can it handle that?
