Joe, I did turn the center channel on in the setup, tried setting it to Large and Small, results were the same both ways, when it is set to none, it actually doesn't even show up in the cycle of test tones.

Pictures to come in post 6 to keep the peace \:\)

I know you are disappointed, sorry. \:\(

The outside theatre picture (Really just showing off my diy back lit movie poster box, but my speakers are in the picutre!) \:\) :

The behind the screen, pre-hooked up picture:

The in front of the screen where you can't even really see the speakers picture (I stole this image from my screen build thread over on avs, the door now matches the walls, finally painted the thing and replaced the outlets to match too):

John,

I was running my Celestion's with a 'phantom' center, so ya, I'm going to do the same with the Axiom's and move my Celestion's to the rear. The Onkyo I have is far too old to have rear surrounds, though that was a cool idea. And the sub idea is a good one too... no way I'm dragging my dad's over though, it's massive... though it's a good idea, I'd really like if the pre-outs work... I can just about justify an amp purchase \:\) If only those Emotiva's were cheaper to get into Canada! They are such a great deal in the states.

Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

Roar:

I want that Alice in Wonderland poster!

Also one last dumb idea: supposedly you can reset the 656 by powering it down then pressing the CD and Power buttons together. It might be worth a try??

I'll shut up now

Jollo...

ummm... not sure how to say this... but, that did something. \:\) After starting up after a power cycle and clearing the settings, I am getting a much better test tone now. So now I'm utterly confused, the intial pass through the first test tone kind of crackled a little louder then the second pass through the center channel was much more true, now all L, C and R test tones sound the same, crackling gone... thanks so much for the reset tip, wonder if that really could of done it???

It's late, but I think I'm going to go find a movie to put on, I actually just took some time to listen to some 2 channel music with the M22's and I'm smiling ear to ear, I was always very happy with my Celestions but these things sound great, I'm taking Friday off work to do some more critical listening and maybe a little Chapter 5 Transformers too \:\)

Thanks guys!

Cool, glad that worked. Modern AVR's do a lot of bit crushing before they hit the output stage. I was thinking it probably wasn't an output transistor because you were getting crackling. Usually when an output transistor fries it will go silent. Enjoy those Axioms.

Thanks again Jollo, just finished up the new Fast and Furious, sounded great!

Movieposter.com is a great place for original double sided posters, I got mine there. Unfortunatly the price has gone up a bit since I got it, I think I paid 21.00 when it first came out, it is up to 35.00 now, but that is still a better deal then the 50+ I've seen it going on ebay for.

Welcome and congrats! \:\)

Sorry about that center channel. I understand about cost but FredK is right - do look around for used or refurb AVR's. You don't necessarily need to spend $1,000+ on one to get good sound. You never know what you could find at a garage sale or even a pawn shop.

eCost.com has refurb Denon AVR488's for $99 right now. 75x5, HDMI switching, etc. Simple and cheap. http://www.ecost.com/Detail/Speakers/Denon/AVR488/42301717.aspx?navid=155441514

Something like that would be pretty inexpensive, give you full surround sound, would likely sound fine, and would tide you over for a few months until the budget recovers for a 'serious' AVR later. Just an idea, anyway. I know that a blown center channel would drive me nuts.

Congrats again and welcome to the club! \:\)

On the AVR, if money is tight and you have no plans for bluray, consider picking up an older model refurb or used that dosn't have HDMI. You should be able to find something local for less than $100.
