I have Axioms M60s in the Front and VP150 Center Channel. I am contemplating if I should by QS4s or the QS8s. I have a 14X18 Ft room.

I use my system 80% movies and 20% music...

I would really appreciate some suggestions.

I have pretty much the same kind of set-up that you do, but my room is 12 x 12. I just purchased the M60's and next month plan to get the VP150 and QS-4's. I am going with the QS-4's for two reasons. A) My receiver is 80W and B) I don't listen at high volumes.

Since my receiver's crossover is at 80Hz, it pretty much levels the playing field between the two. The QS-4 goes down to 75Hz and the QS-8's to 60Hz- but that is negated with the 80Hz crossover. So them it comes down to volume level. If you play at high volumes with a high powered amp, then the QS-8's would be best. If you're like me who plays at normal volumes with a mid-powered amp, then the QS-4's would be more than adequate.

Just my thoughts on the subject. :-)

I'm using Qs4's in my HT setup, with Vp150 center, M22's as fronts, and Ep175 sub. My room is 13 x 15 and the Qs4's sound great, and is more than enough for the room size, I think the Qs8's would be a overkill and a waiste of extra money.I feel the same about Ep350 sub vs Ep175 for the room size, would be a overkill. Well thats my viewpoint, hope it helps.

Generally speaking, the efficiency of larger speaker boxes are better than smaller boxes with similar drivers, they also can produce higher volume with less distortion. In other words, their ability to maintain a consistent and stable quality sound on both low and high volumn are better than smaller boxes. So it depends on the volumn you play, Q8 may or may not necessary. Musically speaking, they are really very close, with Q8 has little better base but with M60 as front, the difference would not be significant. If base is important to you, a subwoofer may add more value to your set up than Q8.

Another factor is phycological, I use Q8 and V150 in a 12X12 room, fully aware that they are overkill but I am happy ;-)

The tweeter is different if you are finicky about timbre matching.

From my understanding, timbre matching in regards to surround speakers aren't as important as it is for the front speakers. Also, both tweeters are metal, so the sound quality would be extremely similar between the two.

How do the tweeters differ... aren't they all 1" titanium?

Are the tweeters the same for my proposed m3/vp150/qs4 setup?

Thanks!

It is my understanding that the QS-4'a have a hybrid neodynium & titanium 1" tweeter- different than most of the other Axiom speaker models. Apparently the hybrid tweeters have a 1/2" voice coil compared to the 1" voice coil in the other Axiom speakers, such as the VP150.

See the post under Technical Questions, titled "Tweeter Differences" for more information.

Ian can you explain why Epic Grand Master has QS8's with M22 bookshelf Fronts,But Epic 50 only has QS4's with M50 fronts.Should it not be switched the other way.Wouldn't the M50 be for a bigger room than the M22.
So than the bigger QS8's would be for the bigger room also,
not theQS4's.
