if your reciever doesnt offer EQ, is there any way you can manually EQ your speakers?

Can you buy something, maybe at radio shack...

Settle down there, turbo.

I wouldn't bother unless your system ends up sounding bad in your room. Chances are you won't really need it. The auto-EQ is great to have, but it's really hard to duplicate it manually without a professional calibration.

EQ and level calibration are two different things. The H/K 525 has auto level calibration (I think it's called EZ-Set). This adjusts the volume level of each speaker so that they are all the same loudness from the listening position. The Yamaha takes it one step further. In addition to adjusting the volume of each speaker, it will adjust the frequency response of each speaker by boosting or cutting certain frequency ranges so that each speaker has a flatter response in the room. It really is a deal-breaking feature...

Yes Hawk, in my view it should hold you back and would be reason enough to get the Yamaha 1400 instead.

Yup...it sure does. I have this receiver. It works...but not that great. You can do a much better job manually.

I've been saving my pennies for the Pioneer Elite 55txi. Does it not do the same as the Yamaha 1400? Should I save my money and by the Yamaha 1400 instead?
