Fried my amp with comfortly numb; Pink Floyd dvd this week end.
Need a replacemnt at a $500.00 price point.
Found a onkyo TX-SR607 for $400.00 review s look good.
Not to worried about video switching. Need good sound with plenty of power.
Driving M80's+center+q4+rears.
Also looked @ pionneer 1019 as well Denon 790/1910
Onkyo seems to be best bang for the buck.
Any thought/suggestions welcomed thanks
PB

Hmm, I'm not sure you can get "good sound with plenty of power" for $500 price range. The "plenty of power" is pretty subjective I guess. My idea of loud and power is pretty wimpy for some of the folks around here! ;\)

Have you thought about used equipment? Perhaps Marantz 7001 or 8001? The former is probably in your price and the latter just a bi more expensive.

I think going with used equipment might give you the best bang for the buck.

A Denon 1910 looks to sell for between $440 to $500 in the US w. free shipping.

PB, condolences on your 885's passing. There're several Denon and Onkyo models in particular which would be suitable. Yes, the Onkyos might offer a bit more bang for the buck. The 607 would be a good choice, but even better at well within your budget would be the factory refurb 706. It's available at the moment(still on but apparently ending tonight)from ShopOnkyo for about $420 with free shipping. Enrolling in "Club Onkyo" entitles you to the $480 sale price plus 10% off and a $10 credit, which gets down to about $420. Accessories4less has the 706 for about $450.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Have you put any thought into a budget receiver that has pre-outs and then adding a 2 channel amp for the M80's. A receiver alone might not be the answer to supply "plenty of power" to your listening environment. It is probably one reason you fried your Denon to begin with. How big is your room?

As much as I like Pioneer, the 1019 isn't a receiver to buy. They added iPhone support, and nothing else worthwhile, and then removed some power. But if you can find a 1018 on the cheap, it may be worth looking at (and it does have pre-outs).

You could also simply look at having your Denon repaired. I fried my 3808 very badly and it was only $250 to repair.

His went Comfortably Numb though. So I think he is looking more at rehab, which could be costly if his health insurance doesn't cover amps.

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.
