I just bought my home theater setup 4 m22s, svs 25-31 pci, and an HK 525 and i had some questions.

For how long should i break it in?
What volume should i break it in at?
Are there any safety mechanisms on either the reciever or the sub?
How do i prevent the sub from bottoming out?
How do i prevent the reciever from breaking?
I own LOTR 1 and 2. What scenes should i test/listen to on those movies?
Is the reference level 75 or 85 dbs?
Finally, can i leave the system on all day long without ever turning it off? including sub and reciever?

Hawkson, you should really search more on these forums before asking questions.
The break-in issue has been covered extensively many times.
So starting from question 3 downward:
3) The receiver typically has safety protection to control for high heat and high loads. It will shut itself down under these conditions.
4) Your sub will not bottom out.
5) Do not pour liquids on your reciever and it will be fine.
6) What exactly are you trying to listen for that you need the LOTR dvds? High notes? Sub notes? A good sub note is in LOTR 1 in Balin's Tomb when the goblin drums begin.
7) Reference varies depending on who you talk to. I believe the value you are referring to is 75dB. I've personally not found it to be critical when equalizing the system.
8) You can leave the system on all day if you like to burn electricity for no reason and help push forward the demise of our degrading electrical grid and the consumption of limited, non-renewable resources.

As for LOTR 1, here's a few goodies (sorry, don't remember chapters#):
  • At Bilbo's party, fireworks whiz past
  • When Gandalf returns from Minas Tirith asking, "Is it safe?" you get a great bird sound from the back right.
  • Black rider approaches hobbit saying, "Shire...Baggins" is nice fron to back effect.
  • Rain in Bree is nice all-around you effect.
  • Item 1

From LOTR 2, test your sub when the orcs blow up the Deeping Wall.

You're nothing if not consistent.
