I will freely admit that I'm crazy. I had to share in case there's anyone else here that has a similar real-sugar Coca-Cola fetish... Made an amazing discovery this weekend! Sam's Club sells Mexico-imported, glass-bottled, real-sugar, 12oz Coca Colas by the case. Totally. Freaking. Awesome. A couple of years ago, a buddy turned me on to the treat of real-sugar sodas. So tasty & refreshing. I'm not one of those anti-HFCS people, I think regular old sugar just makes for a better-tasting soda. Jones' Soda is the most commonly available pure-sugar soda. They're good, but they're usually kind of pricey. And Jones' cola - while fine - isn't a Coke. This same buddy has some "connections" (we're so lame...) to get real-sugar versions of Dr. Pepper, Coca-Cola, and various lemon/lime sodas from a few specific bottling plants, and so every now and then he'd arrange for a few bottles for me. And some specialty grocery stores carry them too, but they're invariably kind of pricey, and normally sold as single-bottles only. When I'd get them, the real-sugar Coca-Cola's were like manna from heaven. I don't drink sugary sodas very often at all, but when I do, I want to make it count. And as a Coke drinker, these real-sugar cokes are like "Christmas-morning-unwrapping-your-first-bike-when-you-were-7" good. There's just something about them when they're made with sugar and in glass bottles instead of high-fructose corn syrup in plastic bottles. It just tastes better. Clean, crisp, and refreshing. And now I've got a reliable source! And yes, I enjoyed a couple "Pepsi Throwback"'s this summer, but I'm a Coke guy, so Pepsi just doesn't really work for me. More info, if you're curious.... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/11/magazine/11fob-consumed-t.htmlSo if you are a Coke drinker, and have never had a real-sugar Coke in a glass bottle, head on down to your local Sam's Club!

Very awesome. We don't have a Sam's Club here, unfortunately, but maybe I can find another source.

Different Costcos carry different items, and I haven't noticed any when I've been there, but I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Here all the Mexican stores, there's a lot of them, carry the imported sodas.
I do prefer those to the stuff in the regular stores, for sure.

When I lived in Florida I drank Inca Kola all the time. After I moved back to Maryland, I on occasion wanted some. I ordered a 2L from an online Mexican grocer, it was a nice treat. Again a year or so later I had the craving again, and hit up the same store. This time it wasn't the same. Looking a little closer, in this case it was bottled in New Jersey and made with HFCS instead of sugar. I've not ordered any since--the cost of shipping liquids is just too high to risk disappointment.

Hmm, it occurred to me that a 'real' Coke and some good rum might be calling my name this week...

Is there a worm at the bottom? Not really a pop drinker, but a couple of years ago I tried some naturally made "Sarsaparilla" and "Cream Soda"....dang!!

Good gravy, Peter. I've never seen anyone so excited about a beverage that isn't beer. We seem to be able to get Mexican soda at not only Costco and Mexican grocers, but also Cash and Carry (restaurant supply). Mrs. Tuttle's great grandfather was a Pepsi bottler, so I can't really share your passion. I am sincerely glad you are happy, though!

Mrs. Tuttle's great grandfather was a Pepsi bottler What a coincidence! I'm a Coke de-bottler.

I was referring to the original post, actually(should have replied as such....Mexican Coke...) In actual fact, the worm is found in another drink called "Mezcal" which is related to, but not Tequila....apparently a common misconception. Personally, if I see a bug in any drink, I'll pass!!

I hear it can be had for free from your local Grab and Run, but you have to make it past Guido and the dogs, first.

I do not drink soda. but if I did it would most definately be Pepsi. Only because it is a gazillion times better than coke. That is a proven fact by the way not just an opinion.
I used to drink Pepsi in glass bottles back in Europe as a kid. On a hot summer day there was nothing better than a cold pepsi carbonated so hard it would come out of your nose. mmm....

So you're saying the carbonation is the best part of Pepsi? The thing you like most is the parts where the liquid is not?

I remember taking the "Pepsi Challenge" as a kid at the CNE(Cad National Exhibition) many years ago. My friend and I took it just for a free drink, lol. Oh, I picked the "Coke" just to piss off the host...very easy to tell the difference between the two...Coke is more acidic and Pepsi has a medicine taste with truckloads of sugar in it.

So you're saying the carbonation is the best part of Pepsi? The thing you like most is the parts where the liquid is not? You misunderstood. The carbonation helps to spread the suagary liquid goodness all over the inside of my nose.

Coke is more acidic and Pepsi has a medicine taste with truckloads of sugar in it. Not surprising I guess, considering Pepsi was invented by a pharmacist looking to create a good tasting digestive aid. I give him a fail on the digestive aid part but a win on the taste.
With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

When I saw a post about Mexican coke I was really worried about y'all.
While I always preferred Pepsi over Coke cause I don't like too much carbonation, I completely switch to Mt. Dew years ago. I've heard that dark colas can cause kidney stones due to the type of acids used. Been down that road once, and once was enough.

I wonder if another pharmacist invented "sarsaparilla"(root beer)?

Well, if you're really worried about your health, you wouldn't be drinking sodas at all, right? I'll stick with my once in awhile Coca-Cola habit--either aluminum can, or Mexican glass bottle. Yes, I do like the taste of aluminum. I'm weird.

OhioKyle, I'd hate for you to be not drinking coke for the wrong reasons. Take a look at what snopes.com has to say on the subject. I'd like to point out a key quotation: "Besides, the gastric acid in your stomach is much stronger thatn any of the acids in Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola is harmless." Well, harmless in the acidic sense. If you drink a lot of ANY cola and don't supplement your daily fluidic intake with plain water, you're harming yourself in the long run. Moderation, people.

They finally got the Mexican Coca-Cola back in at our Costco, so I picked some up. Pretty good, but I'm not sure I'll ever pay the premium again. Still, it will be nice to have around to offer guests for a while. Bottles are so much cooler.
