Nope, not buying or anything. Just curious. A friend has these German speakers and was looking for more info on them. I haven't heard them yet but here is what was found posted somewhere by another owner.

Actually, if I had a question to ask here it would be, "What does "Flankensteilheiten (Steepness?)" represent?

Canton Karat 60
-price paid: 2000 Deutsche Mark in 1989, top of the line of the Karat series at their production time.
-Description: Large bookshelf / floorstanding speakers
-3-way bass-reflex (confused about this, do not see any hole anywhere, except for something very narrow near the tweeter)
-Crossover freqency: 450/4500 Hz
-Woofer: 260 mm (10.2"), Midrange: 120 mm (4.7"), Tweeter: 25 mm (1") Aluminum-Manganese dome
-Nominal impedence: 4 Ohm
-Power rating: 100/150 Watt (nominal/max)
-Frequency range: 22 - 30,000 Hz
-Sensitivity: SPL (1 W, 1 m) = 93.4 dB
-Distortion: less than 0.7%
-Emission angle: more than 125 degrees
-Flankensteilheiten (Steepness?): 12/12-12/12 dB/octave
-Dimensions: W x H x D = 31 cm (12.2") x 58 cm (22.8") x 31 mm (12.2"), Volume 56.6 l (each)
-Weight 16.5 Kg (each)
-Use: For amplifiers upto 130 Watts, for rooms upto 55 sq metres (592 sq ft)mur

That's quite a frequency range.

And from a 22 inch tall speaker at that! It does not say what the +/- db is though...

I'm pretty sure 22" was a typo on behalf of the original poster.

Canton is still advertising frequency ranges up to 30,000 Hz on their speakers. Very impressive, if you are a dog.

Apparently 22" is not a typo. I must really go and look at these. A 10" woofer (must be in the side,) a mid and a tweeter in a 22" high box. It's starting to sound more like a subwoofer with a built in speaker. heh heh.

When I was a kid, I had always wanted to own Canton speakers.

::::::: No disrespect to Axiom, but my favorite woofer is my yellow lab :::::::

Hi Murph,

I haven't heard that particular model, but other Cantons I've auditioned over the years suggest that Canton has really pretty cabinets and finishes but they are not accurate, linear speakers in the tradition of Axiom, PSB, Paradigm, Snell, Revel and the former Energy Veritas models, to mention some of the stand-outs.

Regards,
Alan

I've seen a few of them at Star Electronics in Mississauga, but never gave them an audition, they "looked" out of my price range.
