Just watched the Blu-ray of Goldfinger.. It looked fantastic and sounded pretty good. This was well recommended at Blu-ray.com and I wanted to get an idea of how a well transferred movie would look and sound. Have to say they did an outstanding job. The video looked exactly how I remember older movies (colour/texture) looking on the big screen. The audio was pretty good considering it was originally mono. The front soundstage was the best with lots of sounds panning to follow the action but about all that came from the surrounds were ambient sounds. Using the DTS surround sensation mode sounded the best of the many to choose from.

I don’t think I’ve seen this since the late 60s so the only part of the story I remembered was the card game Bond interrupts, the Oddjob and Pussy Galore characters and Goldfinger’s plan but the how the rest of the story unfolded was all “new” again. Sean Connery’s character rocks…to bad the modern James Bond has become so pedestrian.

Watched the Aeon Flux Blu-ray. Not the greatest Scifi movie ever made but reasonably entertaining and looks pretty good.

Also finished watching Blood + part 2. Overall a pretty good anime about a “B.” Good characters and interesting story with almost every episode ending in a cliffhanger keeps you coming back for more. Things that stop me from giving it an “A” are the about 1 in 5 or so episodes that are about her family that do nothing much to further the plot. Also, the stupidity of some of the characters that’s need to keep the story going. So overall I liked it but could have skipped about a 5th w/o missing much.

BLOOD+ isn't even a B+? What a missed opportunity.

I just watched Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan. There were some beautiful scenes, but it was a bit boring for me. Maybe it's just something about the way it was done.

“Missed opportunity” is the perfect way to put it. Cut out the filler episodes that deal with the family life and I’d bump it up to a B+ or A- (Obviously if you’re seen it before you’d know which ones you could skip). Hard for me to go above an A- with the stupid way the character must act on occasion to advance the plot in the direction they want. Still overall I’d recommend it.

Just watched the Battlestar Galactica to kick off a recap of the first 2.5 seasons I’ve already seen as a prelude to watching the remainder over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was still as good as I remembered it. I just hope that the last part of the series is as good as the first. I didn’t care for the “New Caprica” story arc and shortly after that missed so many episodes I figured I was better off waiting for the whole thing to come out on DVD.

On the big screen the standard definition looks pretty good most of the time but occasionally in some scenes there was a grainy look, but I was trying to be critical and it really was pretty good.

I've noticed the grain as well, and I think it's probably intentional (esp if I'm noticing it on SD!)

The New Caprica arc is painful, but I think you really need to watch it to understand the rest of the series. Not that I've finished it...

Man some people are dedicated.

I watched that a week before they opened for AC/DC this summer. They certainly rocked their hearts out live. You could tell they were super happy to be back on stage, especially opening for AC/DC. Unfortunately, they suffered from the opening band, sound quality blues but their energy certainly made up for it.

I watch “Caprica” when it first came out. Very different feel but I liked it a lot. It was nice to get the beginning of the back-story for the whole series. The thing I like most about the new “Battlestar Galactica” is that they started with the intent of telling a story rather than just having an ongoing series. It’s the same thing I like about most animie. However, the downside is if you miss a few episodes It’s rather like skipping a few chapters in a book. Also modern technology has spoiled me in that I can save up or order a whole series and watch it all at once, my preferred viewing method.

I have The Plan at the top of my Netflix queue, but the waiting list must be a mile long.
