Well the 706 is amazing, i might be that it is new or newer technology, but I think it sounds better and makes the Axiom's come alive!!!!
Well for now I take John's advice and enjoy the music!
Thanks to all for their help, mission accomplished.

Glad to hear things worked out. I hate being without music.

Side note: What kind of drums you banging in your avatar. I see a mike for vocals but the picture isn't clear enough to determine your celebrity status. \:\)

With great power comes Awesome irresponsibility.

Those drums are a set of Mapex,no status here, just old rockin-roller playing at the beach in NY.
Graet fun that was, thanks for asking.

Question on the 706...
What is being represented when the amp goes to "0" then to +1,+2 ect.
Could you explain? Is it a represntation of how power the amp is using?

congrats on the new reciever the onkyo's are really great. they don't look like much but they really do sound amazing. I have the tx-sr 607 and it has been compared in sound to the DENON 3808 quoted from here:

http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers/onkyo-tx-sr607-black/4505-6466_7-33553470-2.html?tag=txt;page
Audio performance

"Moving our Aperion system back to a traditional surround sound setup, we found the TX-SR607's sound quality was well above average for its price class, and comparisons with our reference Denon AVR 3808CI receiver ($1,699 MSRP) were too close to call. The two receivers sounded alike, at moderate volume. Cranking the volume way up, the Denon had the edge, as the Onkyo couldn't quite keep up when driven that hard. That's no surprise, though, considering the Denon is more than twice the price of the Onkyo"

you have the model above mine so i can only imagine. the select 2 must be nice. AND YOU PAID LESS THAN ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..

anyways back to your question... what do you mean by 0,+1...etc. is the 706 showing db's for volume? cause the 607 doesn't. It just goes up from 0-79... i do miss the db reading though - like in most other recievers, but i just couldn't justify that being the reason for my purchase.

im also glad to here you can run the M80's. i unfortunately don't want to chance it, since it runs warm as it is and isn't really in an open place. and im only rated for 6ohms and above.

Paul, for receivers where the volume control goes from say -80 to +20 rather than from 0 to 100, the 0 setting is typically used for calibrating movies to "reference level"(most consider this to be too loud for home listening and use maybe -10 or less). The volume control is a variable resistor which controls the amount of the incoming voltage from the source material which is let through to be amplified. At the maximum setting, regardless of whether the scale is - to + or 0 to max, essentially all of the incoming voltage is let through to be amplified by the fixed gain factor of the amplifier. So, if the voltage coming in from different source materials happens to be at the same level, equal settings on the volume control result in equal power output and equal loudness. If the source materials have different voltage outputs the net power output from the amplifier at a given volume control setting will vary in proportion.

Enjoy the music, not the equipment.

Have to laugh at those reviews, of course the 607 sounded as good as the 3808 at lower volumes, so do the lower priced Denon's etc.. You are paying, and at a premium I might add, for a few extra bells and whistles and slightly higher wattage/power output, which is why the 3808 sounded better at higher volumes.

Hey I will add that I think the onkyo does sound better then the denon I had, maybe because it is newer tech.
But I could not be happier, I do play it LOUD, I think the music sound great!
Just in case any one was wondering.

By the way is he a way to get emailed when someone post on a string?
THX
