I would start with at least a foot if you have it just to give them a little breathing space.

I'm thinking if its too close the left one will have alot more sound from the wall deflection

The level can always be adjusted with the help of a SPL meter. And yes, I would experiment with the distance (mainly because I'm obsessive about my set up.)

Red, about a foot should be good, and yes, you'll not get as much reflected sound from the right because of no wall there, but it can be balanced reasonably well.

Well the other 4 boxes showed up today. I got everything istalled and they sound great. The left rear ended up a little more than a foot from the side wall. Mainly bacause that is where the wall stud was. Sounds good to me.
Its fun listening to old cds and hearing details I never really noticed before. Even watching action scenes in some movies these speakers really bring out the detail.
Well I'm glad I found you guys (and gals) other wise I'd probally be listening to Bose right now (well not really). Now I can give a good friend a run for his money. Hes got a nice Definitive setup which sound real nice, too bad I'll have to tell him how my whole system cost what his towers ran.
Thanks to everone here and Axiom for great speakers at a good price.

Actually I have been reading up on the subs. So far the HSU STF2 looks like the one for me. Also it seems there is some talk Axiom is coming out with a diff. sub also. I would like to see what they offer.

There's currently a STF-2 on Ebay. Though after shipping, it'll probably not end up being a bargain. I'd just order one direct from Hsu.

I know that HSU is supposed to be doing their VTF series over again once the STF were in place. I don't think people would have been willing to spend the extra money to have what they might percieve as dated technology when the lower model was newer.

Also, if the price point gets too close the extra production costs make no sense. I'm excited to see the new VTF-2 and VTF-3 that I think you're referring to. I figure they should be out when I finally have the money for all this.

I must be the only dink on the planet that hangs out at an A/V forum and doesn't own anything

Nope...there are a couple others who hang out and own nothing yet.

I'm not sure what Hsu has planned for the VTF series. They're still great subs, but like you said, the price doesn't make sense now that the STF's are out. Last I heard though, the VTF "upgrades" were minimal. I'm sure he/they have something planned though.

I just ordered a Hsu sub, and by recomendation of Dr Hsu, by email, he recomended I go with the VTF2 over the STF2 due to by his words were "the VTF2 has all the bugs worked out, the STF2 is in it's first production run, he is sure there will be some kinks to straighten out, for example some people feel the gain is too low. Future production runs will have the gain increased." I honostly don't know if that is important to anyone, but something to consider.
