The latest Axiom AudioFile newsletter, concerning the M60s and M22ti's, states that "The tonal balance of each model is very similar, with identical midrange and upper-octave detail and clarity."

How can this be since the M22ti has no midrange speaker but the M60 does?

I'm still trying to choose between these 2 models and the midrange is one of my concerns (along with are the M60s too much for a 15'x12' room).

Um, 2 5.25 inch drivers in the M22, 1 5.25 inch driver in the M60.

The midrange on the M22 and M60 do indeed have very similar sounding midrange. I've owned both. It's no lie. How far away will you be sitting in your room? Your room would probably work well for either the M22 or M60. If you're sitting relatively close to the speakers, I'd get the M22's. If you can give them some room - move on up to the M60s.

So Al, as you now gather, the M22 has two of the same drivers which handle the M60 midrange.

Um, since Axiom is calling those "5.25 inch cone shaped things" woofers, I assumed they were for bass. If they are supplying the midrange, then will the M22ti get enough bass?

I'm currently using Cerwin-Vega 3-ways that have plenty of bass (I know that it is 'boomy' bass that is different from the Axioms). So I guess that my concern is... will I miss the bass on the M22ti.

speaking of the newsletter..

You guys had the camera out. shouda took some pics of the factory in full tilt. we would love to see! more people work at axiom than i thought. only recognized a couple faces maybe 3 if the guy on the far right is Joe. I think a factory tour would be a great addition to the website though.

A driver is a driver is a driver. I would assume that the crossover network between the mid/tweeter and the woofer/tweeter (same driver, remember) is the same. Therefore, the twin 5.25" drivers of the M22 handle mid and bass. Just fine. Although you probably want to add a sub to the M22s. Although driver dimensions don't add, you do get more bass from 2 5.25" drivers than from one.

Eno, you will probably miss the bass with the M22. It does fine for a bookshelf from 80Hz and up, but it really needs a sub IMO, esp for modern material. Midrange is very similar to the M60.
