+1.

The interactions between the speakers, the listener and the room play a huge part in perceived quality.

Would this problem not exist with his other speakers, assuming he placed them in the same location? He did mention the other speakers sound fine..

The other speakers were bookshelfs weren't they? maybe not so placement-finicky.

Half of communication is listening. You can't listen with your mouth.

Well, larger range of frequencies should equal more chance for nasty reflections and nulls. But I agree, if really checked at the same spl and same source, you would not expect the book shelves to sound great and the 60s like crap. I was thinking that "evaluation" was of a rather non-critical variety, but that is an assumption on my part.

Folks, tried it all. Not sure what it is. The speakers are placed on a carpet, so i thought maybe that have something to do with it. I installed the rubber feet that were not there before. Did the sound improve, hmm, yeahhhh, maybeee. I will probably contact Axiom now. These are still under warranty so, if it takes it, i wont mind sending them back to Axiom to see what they have to say about the sound quality when they test the speakers out with their setup. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Could try them in another room before shipping those big hunkers? I had a bad shipping experience when I sold my M60s.

There's an idea. If the room you have them in now is drastically different from the room they were in over in your previous home, is there a room in your new digs that is fairly similar to your old room? If so, perhaps putting them in that room and giving them a listen will tell you if it's the room dynamics at play (as many here are suspecting it is) that are fouling your listening experience.

Just a thought.

It does make sense that both speakers are doing this, must be the room or receiver or using. When these were not being used, how and where did you have them stored?
