The title pretty much says it. What do you do with your old dvd players. I have this old Toshiba HD player that I'm going to retire. Finally ordered a BR player this evening and wondering what folks do with the old ones.

Find a neighbour that is still stuck in the VHS era and give it to them.

We have electronic disposal sites around here that we take unwanted components to. It used to be they just went to the dump.

we still have 4 other tv's around the house, we use our old DVD players on those tvs. that way if we are watching a movie in one room, our kids can watch whatever movie they want in one of the other rooms.

That's what I've been doing too but there's a dvd player in each room now. I'll most likely give it to my brother.

I am in the same boat, with the new BR player I now have at least one if not 2 extra dvd players, one is my old Samsung HD931(?) and the other is a very cheap Daytek.

I just a couple of weeks ago gave an older one away that was just sitting around.

Next time I'm waiting for the format wars to settle before I buy again. I lost on the beta and vhs too.

Next time there's a format war, I'm going to buy two of each kind of player just to offset your lack of participation in early adoption.

The Toshiba HDDVD player I have is a very good DVD player and upscales the image really well. Original DVD's over HDMI and DVD backups over Component.

You may want to post it on a used gear site as there's still lots of HDDVD people out there looking for cheap back up players as they invested $$$ in HD-DVD disks.

I use one of my old DVD players as a CD player in my workshop setup. It plays MP3 discs as well, so I can play ~5 hours of music per disc between changes....

Whatever we don't use always ends up in the hands of relatives, I did keep the Toshiba A2 for playing the HD DVDs we have.

I have one hd dvd so keeping it for on disc isn't in the plans.

Provided it still works, donate it to a church or school. Our church has a prison outreach ministry that recently requested dvd players. We didn't have a 'spare' so we bought a $49 DVD player and donated it.

There is probably a private school in your neighborhood that could find a use for it.

Donate them to a local school. Easy for me because my wife works at a school.

Make that 3. I owned exactly one VHS player, an expensive Sony unit that lasted forever, one cheap DVD player attached to my computer (well actually one in each computer) that I will pull out and put into each successive build and now one bluray player which, hopefully, with its upgradeable firmware, will last me until the next format comes around.

Consumer products companies must hate me...

I donate all of my old stuff to "Habitat for Humanity". I never thought of a private school (great idea), and donating something to a church just sounds odd; to me it should be the other way around.

Shutting up now!

A lot of our local churches have a school attached/associated with them: 2 Catholic w/ grade school, 1 Catholic w/ high school, 1 Baptist w/ k-12.

Habitat is a great outlet as well as GoodWill, etc.

Never thought about Habitat for electronics donations - good idea. I have donated my old PCs to schools in the past.

I like the donate thing. A lot of Boys and Girls Clubs and such are trying to put in movie rooms for cheap. I volunteered my time at one particular club to help with the setup because I liked how they were going to run it. The AV room for movies and video games was a reward area for those kids who participated regularly in physical activities. No exercise, no access.

You know, it wouldn't be a bad idea for companies like Sony, Samsung, Panasonic ect to promote their Blu Ray players by asking people to bring in their older(working) players for a small discount($5-25 depending on new purchase), then sending sending the used unit to some type of charity or less fortunate people here or abroad.

I've seen stores like Bass Pro do this with fishing reels at their spring show, it's a great idea and a win-win for everyone.
