I have a question though. I have a Yamaha RX-V595 driving everything. It is rated at 70w/channel at 8ohms.

Will I be ok with these Axioms:
M2ti (fronts)
VP150 (center)
QS8 (rears)

All these will be set to small so that the HSU will handle 80Hz and below.

I either neglected it or didn't think anything of the fact that 2 pairs of the speakers I ordered are rated at 6ohms. My tendency is to rarely listen to reference levels.

Will I have any issues? Anyone use a similiar setup with a moderately powered (albeit very good) amp like this?

You shouldn't have any problems.

Being a somewhat "newbie" I continued to do some more searches through both this message board and the one at AVS.

Should I set the impedence selector on the back to the "4 ohm" setting or leave it at the default "8 ohm" setting?

(here is the info from the manual:
setting a: mains, each speaker > 4ohms
center, > 6ohms
rear, each speaker > 6ohms

setting b: mains, each speaker > 8ohms
center, > 8ohms
rear, each speaker > 8ohms

After my searching, this has been posted to death. Just would make me feel more confident if my situation is diagnosed -- especially after I read a bit from Alan specifically critiquing Yamaha's designs. Ugh.

leave it set on the 8 ohm. if you select 4 ohms it will likely switch on a current limiting system that will likely degrade the sound. If you experience the reciever shutting down (not likely) then try switching it to 4 ohm but i HIGHLY doubt you will need to do that.

Nik, as Brandon suggested, leave it at 8 ohms, regardless of the manual. Since using a lower setting has the effect of limiting the voltage and therefore the power which is available, use it only as a last resort in the unlikely circumstance that the receiver keeps shutting off.

I'm running a H/K AVR630 which is similary rated and have heard from many people that should be no prob so i wouldnt worry.
Ordered me some M60ti's and a VP150 ..i'll be gettin the surrounds a lil later on
these are going with a SVS 25-31 PCi

when you first open up the svs you are going to be a little surprised at its size
but it should sound great!!!

I'm thinking I might have to take them all out of the boxes before i'll be able to get them inside my house hehe ugh thats gonna suck lol

Well...they are in town on the delivery truck. I'm quite excited and am also relieved by your comments. The only 2 problems I see getting me into trouble now are:

1. "Honey, did you see the ball drop?" "Yeah, but, did you HEAR how it sounded and the clarity...ohhhh... the clarity?"

2. 12:00:01am. "Honey, you're supposed to toast with me and give me a kiss -- not those bloody speakers"

Got them in the 2 days shipped as promised. Everything was well packed. I have everything setup and have done some "mild" listening. My first impression was "wow, these really are bright!". Not saying it was bad -- it was just different going from the muddy kenwood center and yamaha bookshelf's I had.

The first thing my wife said was "I like that. It is ALOT clearer!". She also liked the looks. So, WAF has been very high so far.

The one thing that I haven't liked so far was that I have to wall mount the M2's in the front (compromise) but I had to drill my own holes for the mounting bracket. I called tech support before doing anything and he walked me through the process. I just hated to drill into my brand new speaks. Kinda scarey. Everything worked fine though.

I REALLY like the QS8's and am VERY glad I went with them over the QS4's. I'm sure the 4's are fine, but, my room is large and the 8's offer a very nice impact. Those suckers are solidly built too. Felt like 2 cinder blocks.

I also REALLY like the VP150 so far. Quite alot of power coming out of the center now.

Lastly, the Yamaha 70w/channel amp hasn't really strained driving everything either so I'm almost ready to put that worry to rest. It gets warm, but, not noticeably warmer than before with all 8ohm speakers.

So far... so good! Will check back when I get everything broken in.

Did you just say "broken in?"

According to forum members who believe in the scientific method, any breaking in that may happen occurs in your brain as you get used to the sound and not in the speakers. There is verifiable evidence to support that a physical change occurs in a new speaker after many hours of play time.

There probably are some physical (albeit minuscule) changes but probably limited to the rubber surrounds. One should hope that the cone material itself or the wood(like) enclosure or the dampening material inside or the magnet doesn't under go some mysterious transformation and I won't even bring up the C word.

My hearing isn't sophisticated enough to detect the elusive [physical~sonic] "break in" changes because, to me, all of my speakers sound just as excellent today as they did when they came out of the box. Therefore, when someone tells me that thier speakers are "breaking in", I have to take thier word for it and assume they can hear a difference.

I think that pmbuko hit the nail on the head when he said that the change is in the perception of the listener. Most of us have been listening to speakers inferior to the Axioms before getting them We are used to muddy, boomy bass, poor midrange, and less than accurate highs. Therefore an accurate, balanced speaker like the Axioms can sound bright from the get-go. I had the same experience. i realize now that my speakers are clear and accurate rather than bright.

It used to be that I didn't listen to music for very long at a stretch. I now realize that that was because of listening fatigue due to my inferior speakers. I can listen to my Axioms all day (and sometimes do). I have listened to a lot more music in the 4 months since getting them than I had in the prior 2 years.

I, too, would suggest that what really gets broken in are your ears.

I tend to lean this way to.

However, there are those among us who walk the earth that claim to be capable of pinpoing the exact moment (if they happen to be listening at that moment) that a component/speaker/wire/whatever breaks in (says them) and "just opens up and becomes (insert descreptive terms here).

It never hurts to have more power.
But I'm delighted to hear you say that about the Yamaha. I think Yamaha's have been getting somewhat of a bad rap around here from some of us who are presumed to be "in the know".
