I am thinking of upgrading to the v2 in the M80s. I am very happy with my M80s but I am nearing retirement so after that happens may not be able to do a lot upgrading. My question to those who have owned both is there that much of a difference noted? Also is the VP150v2 an improvement over the original VP150?

How old are your Tis? There were some significant improvements made between the Ti and the v2 from what I know--mainly in the crossover, but all of the drivers are newer, too (although they don't really look much different.) I don't know that there were major improvements to the VP150, but Axiom does make tweaks to the lineup all the time.

Let see I got the Axioms back in late 2004 I believe, also noted I have (4)QS8s that I don't think need replacing. If I go for the newer versions I would sell the ones I have to perhaps offset the costs. Also to appease the wife who always has been skeptical of my, ahem, AV hobby.

Axiom does have a trade-in policy, so they might save you the trouble of selling the old ones. Check it at http://www.axiomaudio.com/tradeup.html

I'd definitely consult with Axiom directly.

Thanks, I checked it out and may do that if I can't find a buyer. The VP150 does not have any trade in value so it may make selling the Front 3 a go for. But I have some options now, I would still like to hear from owners of both versions to give me some differences they found between the two.

I'd definitely consult with Axiom directly. Ahh someone from T-Town! I did email Axiom and was told the xovers were tweaked and a more open midrange was accomplished, also improved tweeter rings. Most the other changes deal with non-audio items, carpet spikes etc. Do you own the M80 v2s?

I recently went through a process in the trade-up program exchanging 2 M60's and a VP150 for "piano gloss" M80's. Just as an option, If you want new M80's look at maybe upgrading the finish which increases their price and that will then give you trade-in value for your VP150.

I'm sure you already have the V2. The changes were implemented in 03.

Well, the major changes. There have been quite a few minor changes.

I purchased the M80s on Sep7 2004 they are the "m80ti" x2 $522 a piece. WOW! nice price! I got excited thinking I was wrong about the version but as usual I was right!

Not to be argumentative but I can't recall Alan ever mentioning new drivers as part of the V2 designation. I did find he mention the crossover change in this thread and it was done in 03.

Just because it doesn't say V2 does not mean you don't have the same speaker as was later designated as the V2.

That's good to hear.... I mean I am not unhappy with the Axioms I have but you know how this hobby is, "always searching for something a little better" That said I really like the Boston Cherry finish! Thanks for the info.

Rad, I bought mine just a couple of weeks after yours! We're like "Ti Twins"! What an exciting day that was! I was upgrading from a Klipsch Sat/Sub system and when Axioms arrived I was like "OMG! This is great"! Next thing you know new receiver, new big screen I'd opened Pandora's box so to speak.

Hi Radtek2,
Sorry I did not pick up sooner on your location! We should get together some time if it's convenient.
I have M60's. I do not have upgradeitis in that area.

Should Axiom market that? Or would it be counterproductive to business?

I'm sure you already have the V2. The changes were implemented in 03. Rick, There have been multiple changes as Ken mentioned between the Ti and the current V2 rev. The tweeters are different (two revs since the Ti) and the X-over. I’m not sure about the mid range or base drivers. I plan to swap out all of mine to the latest version sometime this year. Mine were purchase in 04. I was curious about this and spoke to some Axiom folks to get the details.

No reason to be sorry Rick, often these things are not announced on the forums.

I know there have been changes to the m80 crossover in the last 2 years for sure. When I thought I was having problems with my m80 The folks at axiom said I would have to send it in for repair (instead of getting a replacement m80 sent to me). They said that this was due to changes in the speaker (I assume the crossover) That they called their "continuous product improvement"... otherwise I'd have two slightly different sounding speakers. I have an m80 v2 bought approximately 2 years ago, but I'm guessing the ones they are selling now have been changed a little.
I have no plans to get the "latest and greatest" V2, because within a few months it may be outdated again... You never know.
