What are people's experience with using the Full Metal Brackets with the QS8's? It's time for me to order my QS8's to finally get my system up to 5.1 and I think the FMB's might help me by angling the speakers a bit toward the listening area. The TV is in a corner of our large family room. We have the couches and recliner forming two sides of the square that make up the TV viewing area of the family room. (Not allowed to rearrange the furniture.) I'm thinking that one QS8 will go close to one corner of the room and the other will go somewhere along the opposite wall putting my recliner in the sweet spot. Will one QS8 placed near a corner be a problem if the other does not get the same corner boost? Will it help having the speakers angled toward the seating area, or does it not really matter because of the design of those speakers?

Always appreciate the advice on these forums.

-Dave

I guess I would have to see a picture of your room. But, the Q's are forgiving on placement, and you will adjust your receiver to compensate for different distances. The Q's don't "have" to be pointing directly at you because the whole purpuse of their design is to wrap around you, they are not a bookshelf speaker that would normally pointed towards you. You do want them pointing in the general direction and to the sides of the seating area though. For a normal 5.1 setup, they should be slightly behind the seating area to help simulate the rear channels your missing, but this is not a must.

They work fine. I have two sets of QS8’s mounted on a set of each FMB (wall and ceiling mount). I do angle them down a bit. Probably not needed or required, but it makes me feel better seeing them pointing towards my listening position.

Thanks for the responses. Here is a quick drawing of my room. It may not be all that correct proportionately. I've marked where I think the surrounds might go.

One of the sidewalls has lots of windows so I have limited placement options. I was thinking of putting the other QS8 on the opposite corner to keep things symmetrical but now I'm thinking of just putting in somewhere along the wall where it sounds okay and still looks acceptable to my wife.

With admittedly less than ideal surround placement like this, it sure is a good thing receivers let you calibrate the speakers. Make sure you don't overlook that critical step. It will boost the signal to the furthest QS8 so it sounds just as loud as the other one -- and all the other speakers, for that matter. With calibration, I'm sure it will sound just fine.

Yes, it's definitely not an ideal room layout.

After making the room layout drawing and taking a second look and knowing all that I've been reading on these forums for the last couple of years, I don't think I'm going to need to get the full metal brackets after all. They will probably be just fine using the wall-mount brackets.

Thanks all for the feedback!

I had a corner layout like you and ran a 6.1 system I had one QS8 above and to the side of the 3 seat couch but mounted to the wall behind it, the back center more or less above and behind the chair and the Left surround mounted to the far wall behind and above the loveseat. This layout worked great.

Your speaker positioning will work even better than mine did as the Right surround is farther off to the side. I would still move that Left surround to the wall beside the love seat and add a rear center channel behind the chair.
