I have an older Hsu VTF-2 subwoofer (the original one) and the amp needs servicing. I'm attempting to disassemble the amp from the cabinet, and am having a little trouble. I've got the plate amp unscrewed, but there isn't much slack wire between the amp and the driver, and I can't remove it much other than to lift it a little and slide it out of the way enough to reach my hand in. Problem is, the wire is attached to the driver furthest away from me (ie, underneath the driver) and I can't really see what I am doing at all. Does anyone know what it looks like (link to pic?) so I can see how exactly how to remove the wire from the driver? I'm not really even sure how it is connected.

I tried to unscrew the driver from outside the sub to allow me to move that to maybe help? The driver didn't seem to want to budge, and I didn't want to force it for fear of damaging the sub in some way.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you drain the amp before putting your hand in there?

Your best bet is to call or email HSU especially when it comes to technical advice. Most here are not that familar with this sub let alone giving advice about taking it apart.

Hopefully you get your sub up and running soon.

I’m armed and I’m drinking. You don’t want to listen to advice from me, amigo.

The amp was disconnected from it's power source for a few hours before I opened it up.

I have emailed Hsu, it's on their advice I'm taking it apart. They just said to "disconnect amp wire from speaker". Just thought I'd try for some advice here, as it's a fairly common sub, and people here are just so darned helpful; I thought maybe someone here had done this before.

It later occurred to me that the Hsu board might have better expertise, but I just read this board regularly so this is where it first occurred to me to post.

You might also try from the driver side. I've had to disassemble my VTF2 many times after seeing my boy stuff NUMEROUS things into the port, like hot wheels, balls, sippy cups, etc...

Now that it's been brought up, my experience with sub drivers is that they are very heavy. Therefore, it may be that it's not stuck, it just weighs more than you're expecting.

After being told that the connector was a kind of slide on clip, I was able to reach in and blindly pull them off. Mission accomplished. Though I will still need to pop out the driver to replace them at a later date, as I'll need to see to be able to match the correct terminals up.
thanks for all the help!

Are the clips the same width?

Yes, same size, just different colour.

It's no problem, I'll just have to pop out the driver and spin it around. I've confirmed it's just "stuck" from being in place for 7 years. I've been told a little pressure on the back of the driver will pop it out (after the screws are removed, of course).

Ah, that's got to be a relief.
